JOB TITLE: Assistant Water & Waste Water Operator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform mechanical tasks necessary to repair, maintain, and adjust the water plants and distribution system. Collect water and wastewater samples and conduct physical and chemical field analysis as necessary (ph, cl, residual, hardness). Maintain control of chemicals used in accordance with established procedures, record amounts used and provide adequate chemical inventories for daily and emergency use. Establish a schedule to flush hydrants on the distribution system; identify, repair broken water lines as directed by supervisor, and provide a regular schedule to exercise all water line valves. Install new service water and wastewater lines as directed, locate and mark all water and wastewater services and mains, make information available at request of customers, Iowa One Call and other utilities and chlorinate all new or repaired water lines as directed by supervisor. Record water meter readings and calculate consumption; investigate locations with unusual readings to check for leaks, meter problems or unauthorized usage, install, test remove and disconnect water meter as directed. Calculate chemical use as required by state law. Record amount used and adjust as necessary. Check and maintain generators. Operate Sewer Pump truck, and other heavy equipment as needed to repair water leaks as directed. Assist with snow removal. Other duties as assigned. Requirements : High School diploma or GED. Must possess a Grade I Operator's Certificate. Must possess a Grade I Waste Water Operator's Certificate. Must have at least one (1) year of experience in water and wastewater treatment Prefer Grade I Operator's Certificate and Grade I Waste Water Operator's Certificate or must be willing to obtain. Prefer knowledge of reverse osmosis treatment. Must possess strong mathematical/equation solving abilities. Must possess the ability to accurately analyze, identify, and resolve issues related to water and waste water treatment. Must possess a valid Class B CDL and be insurable by the Tribe's insurance provider. Must have basic knowledge of Allen Bradly software. Must be able to work with 480 Volts (3) Phase. Must have a working knowledge of back-up generators and transfer switches. Must be willing to work nights and weekends, as emergency conditions require. Will be on call 24 Hours / 7 Days a week.
