Associate Dean of Students Location: Atlanta, GA
Emory University invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for its inaugural Associate Dean of Students role focusing on crisis and care.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Belonging, Engagement and Community and Dean of Students (AVP/DOS), Dr. Kristina Bethea Odejimi, the Associate Dean of Students will serve as a key member of the newly formed Dean of Students Office leadership team, providing visionary, strategic, and operational leadership to ensure all Emory University students have access to essential needs, resources, and support systems for academic and personal success.
Oversight includes direct supervision of the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) and Student Case Management and Intervention Services (SCMIS). The Associate Dean of Students will manage a $1.5M portfolio including 12 full-time staff, responsible for creating and executing a vision for crisis and care systems that extends across Campus Life and the University enterprise. Responsibilities include:
Supporting the evolution of work and oversight for OSC and SCMIS.
Building a centralized student leave and re-entry process.
Championing the role of the new Office of the Dean of Students with on and off-campus partners and constituents.
Participating in multidisciplinary teams, including Bias Support Services (BSS), the University CARE Team, the Leave Review Team, and the Threat Assessment Team (TAT).
The ideal candidate will be an experienced, collaborative, and agile leader with a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by students in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. A keen understanding of the legal landscape and its impact on student affairs, along with a strong grounding in best practices, will contribute to fostering an environment of belonging at Emory.
Qualifications include:
A master's degree in higher education administration or a related field.
At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible leadership roles in higher education or related fields.
Experience supervising and developing director-level staff; a terminal degree is preferred.
