Doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing or related field (examples: PhD, DNP, EDD). Valid NY State Professional Nurse License. Five (5) years of upper division teaching experience. Five (5) years of curriculum development experience. Clinical practice leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with academic, clinical and programmatic research. Experience with grant development/submissions and funding. Senior academic leadership experience. Experience with clinical experiential learning.
Brief Description of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Nursing, the Associate Dean, Transformative Learning is responsible for advancing the School's mission of preparing nurse leaders at all levels of practice, through the use of creative pedagogies, cutting-edge research, and innovative practice models to deliver socially-just care and improve the health of local and global communities. This role is situated at the exciting intersection of curriculum design and delivery, and teaching and learning innovation for inclusive excellence, belonging and sustainability in nursing education. The Associate Dean, Transformative Learning provides strategic leadership through direct supervision and professional development support for faculty and staff to deliver high-quality, technology-enabled programs and services that promote stronger student outcomes through approaches such as data use, collaboration, and equity and inclusion. The Associate Dean, Transformative Learning will identify, manage, and acquire clinical opportunities that will help students to grow their knowledge and skills to foster access and belonging in practice. The Associate Dean, Transformative Learning will be given a voluntary faculty appointment by the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) committee. With this faculty role, all candidates should be prepared to pursue the Scholarship of Teaching in the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning. Such an approach emphasizes the development, testing, and dissemination of advances in both pedagogy and andragogy. The School of Nursing clinical faculty are leaders in the implementation of innovative student-centered strategies for the development of practice-ready nurse leaders. All candidates should be prepared to mentor students and faculty, be committed to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, and foster collaborative interprofessional learning experiences. Candidates are expected to contribute to the tripartite mission of a major research intensive university by contributing to the research/scholarship and/or practice/service mission of the university. Candidates will be expected to compete for federal and foundation grants targeted at workforce development and innovative academic program development.
The ideal applicant will have a distinguished record of interprofessional collaboration and scholarship, experience with implementation science and service, and evidence of developing strategies to foster access and belonging in practice and in the classroom.
Duties: Transformative Curriculum Design and Innovation:Provide vision, direction, and support to faculty as they design and implement academic programs and curriculum that meets the needs of a global society and changing health care system.Apply theories, and knowledge of technologies and environments to the design of high-quality learning experiences and assessments across varied delivery modalities.Ensure that programs maximize broad access and inclusivity for all learners.Design and develop competency-based education programs that provide individualization, efficiency, and flexibility for achievement of goals that align with current trends and accreditation requirements.Simulation and Immersive Learning:Provide strategic direction for immersive learning activities in the Learning Resource Center (SIM) lab in collaboration with the simulation education team.Supervise the Director, Simulation and Immersive Learning and ensure that applicable policies and procedures are followed.Ensure that the School of Nursing is advancing in the field of clinical simulation science.Access and Belonging:Demonstrate a commitment to faculty, staff and students to ensure the School of Nursing is fostering an environment of access and belonging.Ensure that clinical experiences promote practice-ready graduates to the nursing profession to continue our mission of providing socially-just care and access in our local and global communities.Explore and develop international learning opportunities, following the guidelines provided by the University and SUNY.Create a framework for global learning following our mission, vision and values and integrate into the School of Nursing curriculum.Evaluation, Assessment, and Outcomes:Oversee the SON Evaluation Plan for assessment of curriculum and teaching methodologies and subsequent methods of evaluation of all programs, including simulation activities and faculty instructional methods.Develop methods to address areas of improvement within the curriculum and through instruction to ensure we are meeting benchmarks.Collaborate with the Associate Dean, Academics to train faculty on best practices to ensure they are utilizing resources to improve outcomes.Promote academic and scholarly excellence through a collaborative administrative team.Collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, learning and instruction, student services and success, workforce strategy and innovation, technology, and other key stakeholders on the development and launch of new programs.Partner with the Assistant Dean, Administration and Finance to ensure decisions are made to protect the financial stability of the school, while growing our key initiatives.Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation to promote faculty scholarly development.Directly manage the Office of Clinical Placements to ensure we are providing students with clinical experiences that will best prepare them to enter the nursing profession.Participate in interprofessional opportunities between the Health Sciences Schools and Stony Brook University.Coordinate nursing continuing professional development opportunities for the SON and communities of interest.Teaching, Scholarship, and the Administrator Role:Contribute to the educational, research, clinical, and community service mission of the School of Nursing.Reports directly to the Dean.This is an essential position, and an on-campus presence is expected, along with weekly schedule flexibility to accommodate responsibilities outside normal business hours to both meet the demands of the role and to support the Dean.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.Special Notes:
This is a Management Confidential position. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
