Job Description: The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the State University of New York at Oneonta is dedicated to fostering a campus environment where all gender identities, sexual orientations, and intersectional social identities are celebrated and supported. We are seeking a visionary Associate Director for the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) and OEI Program Associate. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion/Chief Diversity Officer, this dynamic role is pivotal in shaping a more inclusive and equitable campus culture.
The Associate Director will lead with purpose, guiding the GSRC's strategic direction and operational excellence. By spearheading initiatives that uplift the LGBTQ+ community and addressing intersectionality, they will cultivate a sense of belonging, safety, and empowerment for all. Collaboration is key, as the incumbent will work closely with campus partners to host transformative events and evaluate the impact of these efforts to ensure continuous growth and improvement. Additionally, they will play an integral role on the Bias Act Response Team (BART), contribute to the development of DEISJ training, and ensure SUNY achieves and maintains top-tier status as an LGBTQ+ friendly campus through the Campus Pride Index.
Serve as a resource for the campus community, with a strong emphasis on engagement and retention of LGBTQ+ students. Deliver high-impact student-focused educational, cultural, and social programs, workshops, and events, that emphasize Gender, LGBTQ+, and Intersectional Social Identities. Supervise and evaluate student staff/interns, ensuring effective program delivery. Collaborate with campus units and student organizations to host campus-wide events including the PRISM Conference, Women's History Month, PRIDE Month, and Lavender Graduation. Facilitate and oversee the Safe Space training program and the GSRC Advisory Group. Advocate for students and employees regarding Gender and LGBTQ+ issues on campus. Maintain and enhance the GSRC webpage and create a welcoming, safe environment for the LGBTQ+ community. Coordinate the QT Affinity Group for faculty and staff. Partner with academic departments to incorporate LGBTQ+ sensitive pedagogy in the curriculum and develop internships focused on LGBTQ+ career fields. Assist with the design and implementation of the new OEI online training program, including tracking participation and reviewing feedback for continuous improvement. Partner with the CRJIE AD and the Assistant Director for Projects and Initiatives to plan and organize targeted intersectional and inclusive programming that address the needs of students of color who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Host monthly dialogues/discussions in both Centers. Manage a programming budget. Ensure continuous improvement in LGBTQ+ inclusivity by participating in the biennial Campus Pride Index and supporting other OEI-related activities as needed. At least 2 years of direct or related professional experience, including but not limited to working in higher education, LGBTQ+ issues, and or other DEI related field. Demonstrated experience creating or leading collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of individuals and groups. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication (oral and written) skills. Experience providing service to diverse student populations. Ability to work evening and weekends as needed for effective program administration. Preferred: Master's degree in higher education; student affairs; diversity, equity, and inclusion; or related field. At least 3 years of relevant full-time professional experience related to LGBTQ+ and social justice issues in higher education. At least 1 year of supervisory experience. Demonstrated knowledge of current and historical theories, practices, and trends related to diversity, equity, and inclusion work and social justice education. Experience developing and facilitating workshops on LGBTQ+ and DEI related issues to a wide variety of constituents. Prior experience developing, and/or providing student and/or employee programming focused on LGBTQ+ and other diversity, equity and inclusion/belonging issues.
