RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Coordinates the operations of the student conduct process for all students pertaining to academic and non-academic misconduct. Addresses reports of alleged student academic and behavioral misconduct on and off campus filed by members of the campus community. Determines correspondence plan for all communication related to the student conduct process to all parties involved. Ensures students' due process rights are protected and conducts proceedings outlined in California State University (CSU) Executive Order (EO) 1098, including sending investigation notices, meeting with all parties involved, recommending informal resolutions that include administrative sanctions and educational interventions if appropriate, and representing the University in formal hearings. Conducts investigations of alleged violations of the Student Conduct Code and imposes educational and administrative sanctions ranging from written warnings to disciplinary probation as appropriate and may represent the University for assigned cases that result in formal hearings in consultation with the designated Student Conduct Administrator.
Prepares Clery statistics, in collaboration with the Clery Director, as well as other campus and CSU reports. Responsible for oversight of the electronic student conduct database Maxient. Provides annual student conduct training to University Hearing Officers, student conduct staff, and Housing and Residential Education staff. Works collaboratively with the Title IX & Inclusion office on sanctioning, early resolution agreements, interim remedies, and other programs. Develops and conducts educational programs and outreach to assist students with ethical decision-making, reducing incidents of academic dishonesty and other forms of student misconduct, and advocates for student rights and due process in a holistic and educational manner. Provides educational programming and outreach for faculty and staff to support student persistence, ethical decision-making, and reducing academic and student misconduct. Provides support for the development and implementation of the campus requirements as it pertains to the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act, including but not limited to educational programming and policy development for alcohol and other drug prevention work. Serves as point of contact for student conduct procedures and best practices, federal and state laws, and regulations as they pertain to student conduct actions, including FERPA, Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations, and CSU EO 1098/1107/1108 and other applicable laws and policies.
As a member of the Student Life & Support Programs (SLSP) team, the Associate Director of Student Conduct and CARE contributes to, supports, and promotes events, activities, and experiences that enhance the student life experience. Coordinates special projects for the Dean of Students Office and Division of Student Life areas, as assigned. Serves as the Campus Access, Retention & Equity (CARE) Team Co-Chair and provides timely reports and updates to the CARE Team regarding cases. Serves on the CSUCI Case Management team providing leadership and consultation in supporting case resolution. Coordinates care, interventions, social support with appropriate referrals, and follow up services within a broad network of campus and community resources. May provide case management and support to students in crisis, students with complex psycho-social needs and students in need of support related to food, housing, and financial insecurities. Collaborates in providing support to students in distress by triaging concerns and coordinating a response from the campus community. Consults with and provides guidance as needed to other SLSP leaders and campus staff.
Maintains CSUCI's incident database in Maxient, including all conduct and CARE-related incident reports and documentation, provides training for staff, and produces annual reporting of student conduct incident statistics data to the Dean of Students and other relevant audiences. Represents the AVP/DOS and the area of SLSP at meetings and provides supervision to the front office staff in the DOS office when the AVP/DOS is unavailable. Reviews and assigns CARE and student conduct cases to case management staff as appropriate. Represents the Dean of Students office and CSUCI as appropriate to students, staff, campus organizations and offices, faculty, parents, and off-campus community members by providing various trainings on policies and processes, student behavioral issues or concerns, and other related topics. Holds regular collaborative meetings with campus partners such as CI Police Department (PD), Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Housing & Residential Education (HRE), academic deans and departments, faculty, administrators, and staff. Reacts and responds in a timely and appropriate manner to matters of a highly confidential nature. Communicates information, procedures, policies, points of interest, etc., and is responsible for following up with other departments/personnel to ensure accuracy of information. Ensures timely notification to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and the Vice President for Student Affairs regarding all high-level cases. May assist the Dean of Students with projects and/or student issues or other projects on behalf of the AVP office. Serves on selected department and University committees and participates in regional and statewide conduct officer trainings and workshops. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Education:Bachelor's degree in psychology, communication, education, counseling, or a related field required, master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling and Personnel, Student Affairs or other related field highly preferred.
Experience:At least three years of progressively responsible professional experience in student conduct adjudication, case management, planning, and implementation required.
Other Knowledge/Skills:Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services, student conduct, and CARE/behavioral intervention field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Knowledge of group and individual student development theories, assessment, procedures, and techniques; ability to develop effective collaborative relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administrators; effective in counseling/coaching individuals from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge and ability to use high level analytical problem solving and organizational skills with the ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize, manage, direct, and train others in the formation, maintenance, and support of student and ancillary programs and services. Strong knowledge of mental health, student advocacy, suicide prevention and crisis management. Familiarity with and commitment to the CI and the Division of Student Affairs mission and purpose. Knowledge of and ability to use supervisory principles, practices, and techniques to accomplish results through delegation and motivation. Knowledge of effective work policies, practices, and procedures. Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, multi-cultural environment of students, staff, faculty, and academic programs across the University. Working knowledge of the organizational structure of the University and resources available to the University. Must maintain the confidentiality of student information at all times and abide by FERPA guidelines. Proficiency in the use of computers, including appropriate software. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation required. Serves as a Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Clery Act.

Hiring Salary: $6,320-$7,350 per month
