JOB SUMMARY:
The Associate Show Set Designer supports the design, development, and documentation of the overall attraction, scenic and show elements primarily utilizing architectural and CAD software as a design and coordination tool. Supports the development of virtual and physical models, scene studies, renders, plans, sections, drawings and drawing packages depicting design and art direction. As part of the Creative Design team, will assist the Senior Show Set Designer, Production Designer, Art Director, and Creative Director in the development of details creatively integrating the myriad show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment. Assists the integration and coordination of show and facility elements in the drawing package. Utilizes various drafting techniques, 3D modeling & drawing techniques and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Maya, Adobe Graphics software, 3D software, etc.) to model, draw, draft and create dimensional, scale drawings and models detailing the design intent and the integration of various show elements with each other and the facility. Assists with designing to project program and budget, and for coordinating and integrating with other disciplines including but not limited to engineering, operations, and architect/engineer of record.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
As directed by the Show Producer, Art Director, Creative Director, Production Designer or Principal/Senior Show Set Designer, conceives, develops, and iterates ride and show design elements that are assembled into a high-quality show set design package.
Supports the creative development and iteration of ride and show design elements with a focus on scenic, props, environment, architecture, facility, sightlines, and scale through various phases of development.
Supports development of the show set design package. The show set package articulates the creative design intent and details the various show elements of an attraction, such as scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, animated props, audio equipment, lighting equipment and more.
Supports the development of presentation materials including sketches, storyboards, layouts, illustrations, plans, sections, and elevations.
Establishes, builds, and maintains positive and productive team relationships based on open communication, trust and teamwork with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel. Communicates, inspires, and maintains project intent among all team-members.
Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Must have prior experience in theatre, film, animation, architecture, gaming, or other related industries, if no experience in theme park design.
Must be a creative, innovative, organized thinker and problem solver with strong technical and artistic ability with various design techniques/tools such as show set / scenic design and drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design, and/or others.
Must be proficient in both AutoCAD and Revit. Preferably has 3D computer modeling & rendering skills.
Must have strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in related field (Architecture, Fine Arts, Design, Theater, Graphics, Computer Animation, etc.) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
2+ years within attraction development environment is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
