Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting entry-level opportunity as an Associate Underwriter in our small commercial unit, also known as Berxi.
Berxi is a fast-growing start-up within Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. We set out to build a modern, customer-focused, digital platform to help professionals and small businesses buy and manage insurance smarter and faster – all which saves them time and money.
You will be responsible for providing exceptional service to both internal teammates and external customers and drive growth through voice and email communication. We are looking for problem solvers and critical thinkers who are advocates for our customers and the Berxi brand. The team contributes directly to the Berxi experience by providing ongoing collaboration with Berxi's Customer Experience, Partnership, Platform, Product, and Marketing teams.
In this role, you will receive real-time and in-person job training and be immersed into the world of InsureTech and small commercial. You will provide exceptional service to existing and prospective Berxi customers.
The Associate Underwriter position is based in Boston, MA.
Duties & Responsibilities:Review and analyze insurance applications (new business and renewals).Educate teammates and customers about Berxi products.Obtain additional information about an applicant to determine eligibility and coverage needs.Offer recommendations on whether to approve an insurance application.Communicate with customers through phone and email.Collaborate with our teams of product specialists (Customer Service) and Outbound Business Development Managers (sales).Demonstrate a desire for continuing to learn as well as pursuing insurance courses/certifications as required.The role reports to the Director of Underwriting at Berxi.Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:2-4 years of professional experience, ideally with a working knowledge of Commercial or Personal Insurance.Property and Casualty License is preferred, but not required. If not already licensed, you will be required to become a Licensed Insurance Agent upon joining the team (costs will be covered by Berxi).Strong competency with MS Office Applications; with strong Excel skills.Diligence, organization, and time management skills.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Eager to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, start-up team environment.Ability to work independently or on a team and manage multiple priorities effectively.All candidates must have permanent work authorization in the United States.Must be able to work in the downtown Boston, MA office.BHSI Offers:A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates.A dynamic, action-oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates, and our other stakeholders.A purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team framework.NOTE: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
