You'll learn more about this during the recruitment process.JOB SUMMARY:The Associate News Writer is a journalist who plays an integral role for the Discover Universal Blog (The official editorial publication of Universal Destinations & Experiences [UDX] North America, including Universal Orlando Resort [UOR], Universal Studios Hollywood [USH], and New Ventures) by creating original content that will reach a wide audience and add significant value to the Company's brand. The Associate News Writer will cover all aspects of news coverage related to UOR, including but not limited to, Universal Epic Universe, Universal Mardi Gras, Halloween Horror Nights, and any other new attraction and/or product campaigns.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Campaign News Coverage CreationLead Discover Universal integration within major campaigns for Orlando's theme parks, Universal CityWalk, and resorts in an effort to conceive of and pitch inventive, high-impact news articles.Concept, write and edit news articles for the most wide-reaching business campaign priorities.Participate in relevant campaign-related meetings to ensure up-to-date information about all new UOR products (food and beverage, merchandise, hotels, attractions, etc.).Plan and conduct interviews with relevant sources to amplify Discover Universal news coverage to a level of in-depth insight that is unmatched from other outlets covering the theme parks.Shoot and edit brand quality photography that is in line with the Discover Universal Blog and UOR brand standards.Help inform content distribution strategy for marketing channels.Editorial ContributionContribute to the overall editorial strategy and execution of high quality and rich storytelling with a focus on news articles that cover our ever-evolving Orlando destination.Participate in weekly editorial meetings and lead input on behalf of news-related topics.Help establish and sustain our brand tone in a way that connects emotionally with our guests.Assist in executing a guest-first editorial content strategy.Work with other Discover Universal Teams (Video and Podcast) to align on shared campaign responsibilities and create a cohesive strategic roadmap.Content and Platform DevelopmentAssist with the management and digital strategy of the Discover Universal Blog website.Work collaboratively across the business and engage with partners and stakeholders from all levels of leadership.Engage with agency and contractor vendors on projects and management related to the website.Spearhead the creation of standard operating procedures for content optimizations.Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree (Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Broadcast Journalism, English, or Marketing) is preferred.EXPERIENCE:1+ year experience in magazine, blog, or other print/online publishing, public relations, advertising, marketing, or a related content field.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Strong writing skills and also an understanding of brand journalism and a sensibility for what makes captivating visual media, such as graphics, photography and video.Ability to recognize stories with high potential for provocative, compelling storytelling.Proficient in AP Style.Intermediate to advanced knowledge of online platforms like WordPress, Adobe Analytics, Workfront, and Microsoft Office.Spanish-writing/editing skills welcome, but not required.Your talent, skills and experience will be rewarded with a competitive compensation package.Universal Orlando Resort.Here you can.Universal Orlando is an equal opportunity employer.
