PBL has an immediate opening for a part-time, 3 days/week onsite, Attending Veterinarian in the In Vivo Services Department.
THE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ATTENDING VETERINARIAN INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Provides expertise and consultation on matters of animal health and welfare, including veterinary feedback of client protocols and the use of proper anesthesia and analgesia in laboratory test animals; Has direct authority and responsibility for the animal care and use program; Ensures compliance with all regulatory guidelines, occupation health as well as health and safety programs, in accordance with PBL's policies and procedures Ensures assigned activities adhere to protocols and applicable USDA, NIH and AAALAC regulations and requirements; Responsible for the oversight of daily management of the veterinary service team; Provides training on animal care and use as needed; Participates in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) processes and oversight functions; Institutes the use of appropriate methods to prevent, control, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries for laboratory animals; May perform surgeries, provide surgical support and/or anesthesia, or provide surgical and analgesic expertise related to study Sponsor requirements; Oversight of the enrichment committee; Available after hours by phone to advise on animal health or vivarium related emergencies.
Requirements
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ATTENDING VETERINARIAN Doctoral degree (DVM /VMD) from veterinary school that is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Associate, or equivalent degree.
Must possess a current California Veterinarian License.
1 or more years of veterinary experience.
Evidence of veterinary diagnostic knowledge.
Basic surgical skills and abilities, including post-operative care, recovery, and treatment management.
Experience with rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, and mice a plus, but not required; Pacific BioLabs is willing to train the right candidate.
Knowledge of general laboratory animal medicine and surgery (e.g., implantation) a plus, but not required.
DACLAM eligible or lab animal medicine experience a plus, but not required.
Excellent written & oral communication skills Must work well in a team-oriented environment as well as demonstrate the ability to work independently within established policies and procedures.
The pay range for this part-time, 3 days/week onsite, position is $68,640 - $74,880.
The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
