Auditor intern positions are a great way for future Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) to learn about government auditing and gain valuable experience. Interns work on a variety of audit tasks in a team environment under the supervision of other CPAs. Work includes preparing electronic audit workpapers that document audit tests performed and conclusions reached.
Salary: $2,452.50 – $2,575.50 biweekly plus benefits. Work is 37.5 hours per week.
Overview:A summer internship with the State of Alaska Division of Legislative Audit in Juneau, Alaska, allows students to sample the actual career that is governmental auditing. Interns are exposed to most aspects of auditing including performing auditing functions and preparing workpapers which are reviewed by experienced auditor employees. The Division's mission of enhancing government operations and accountability is embedded into the work that intern auditors perform. Working with a team of auditors, interns are placed in a caring, professional, and educational environment that strives to let the individual learn, thrive, and enjoy the twelve-week summer position. The work week is 37.5 hours, and State of Alaska benefits and a potential housing stipend are offered.
Responsibilities:Some or all of the following may be performed by Intern Auditors:
Performs auditing procedures and techniques in accordance with audit standards established by the AICPA and government audit standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States.Prepares workpapers that are thorough, complete, and accurate which document the audit procedures.Researches laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements to determine if programs and processes are being administered accordingly.Follows audit procedures to accurately identify errors and summarize the results of findings.Interviews State agency personnel regarding agency operations and documents the interviews.Works with State agency personnel to obtain audit documentation.Depending on experience, assists in writing audit reports.Performs other duties as assigned.Skills and Qualifications:The Division of Legislative is looking for summer interns who possess the following skills and qualifications:
Ability to communicate in a professional manner.Ability to evaluate business processes, identify risks, and identify controls that should be in place.Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze information.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to research and interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.Ability to maintain confidential information.Ability to work in a team environment and foster a positive work atmosphere.Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet frequent deadlines.
