SkyGrid, a Boeing, Avathon Company, exists to open the sky for autonomous flight. Based in Austin, Texas, SkyGrid builds ground based high-assurance third-party services to enable the safe operations and airspace integration of highly automated and autonomous aircraft. SkyGrid also acts as a key operational nexus for advanced air mobility, integrating and managing data, infrastructure, access, and traffic to support seamless and efficient air traffic services. The SkyGrid team is seeking an Autonomy Engineer to help guide the rapid evaluation of autonomy systems in a simulation environment and develop the future technologies that will ultimately enable UAM operations at scale. This individual will be responsible for developing software that will be used in the end-to-end testing of autonomous air traffic management functions from concept to production implementation.
\n Performance Objectives:Progression of autonomy functions from conception toTechnology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 (proof of concept) throughTRL5 (prototype development). Contribution to the development of the SkyGrid's Technology Maturation Plan. Contribution to the definition of interfaces, architectures, and use cases for new functions. Responsibilities:The Autonomy team is responsible for rapid evaluation of autonomy systems in a simulation environment, and the R&D of future technologies that enable UAM operations at scale. Definition of logical architectures and functional interfaces as well as determining and validating performance requirements. Development of algorithms used in the end-to-end testing of autonomous air traffic management and hazard avoidance functions, from conception to production implementation. Collaboration with system engineers to validate functional and performance requirements for autonomy-based functions. Coordination with software engineers to specify and develop simulation infrastructure and tools to support technology maturation needs. Coordination with software engineers to integrate autonomy functions into the broader SkyGrid system. Specification and execution of computational experiments needed to validate functions and produce related artifacts. Qualifications:B.S. in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a STEMdiscipline. Research experience; particularly in defining problem statements, conducting state of the art analyses, and identifying solution spaces. Experience with software and algorithm development, preferably using Python and C/C++. Experience with mathematical modelling, particularly of vehicle kinematics/dynamics, route planning, collision avoidance, and optimization techniques. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based software development. Familiarity with Cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) and web services/applications. Familiarity with Agile software development, unit testing, and test-driven development. Solution-oriented and self-motivated individual, adept at refining problem scopes to meet timelines. Experience building software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop(HIL) simulation test environments for validation of complex functions in aerospace or related domains. Preferred Qualifications:M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, STEM Familiarity with development and testing in high-fidelity SIL and HIL environments. Experience with Docker or experience with containerization in general. Familiarity with scaling simulation applications in a cloud environment. Experience in one or more of the following areas:
