About This Career Opportunity The Spiritual Care Director Ensures the provision of high-quality worship services and pastoral care to residents, families, and staff of the community. Collaborates with Life Enrichment to ensure religious events are integrated into the community calendar and that they represent the faith and beliefs of those in the community.

In coordination with Resident Care Department and social service, if appropriate, provides for the spiritual and psycho-social needs of the residents through one-on-one counseling and groups. Demonstrates an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents.

Ensures the provision of high-quality worship services and pastoral care to residents, families, and staff of the community. Collaborates with Life Enrichment to ensure religious events are integrated into the community calendar and that they represent the faith and beliefs of those in the community. This includes facilitating relationships with other spiritual leaders for the provision of services to meet the needs of specific groups of residents (i.e., a Rabbi to provide services for Jewish residents). Coordinates the planning of funerals and memorial services. Visits and provides support and counsel for residents who have been hospitalized, on hospice or transferred to higher levels of care. Provides support and comfort to families and staff as requested and as related to caring for an aging relative. Coordinates support with the hospice staff when a resident is on hospice. Assists new residents in their orientation and adaptation to the community. Assists in education about and preparation of Advance Directives. When serving in a community with a Care Center, documents pastoral visits in resident care notes/charts, according to department standards. Communicates significant issues as a member of the Interdisciplinary team. Provides educational opportunities to enhance the lives of residents in such areas as religion, spirituality, ethics, and communication. Takes initiative to actively plan, develop, and implement expansion in the chaplaincy department through recruitment and training of pastoral volunteers. Ensures confidentiality of all resident information, both verbal and written. Directs appropriate information to resident care teams to enable staff to provide holistic care to all residents. Promotes positive public relations to the churches and surrounding community, increasing positive public regard and overall awareness of the services offered and value provided. Serves as a member of the community's leadership team. May supervise other Chaplains. Other Job Requirements Responsible for supporting and participating in the resident centered activity program through attending various activity programs and encouraging resident participation in appropriate activity programs. Ability to work in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing environments and understand the regulations applicable to each care option. Accepts and performs other related duties and responsibilities as required. Qualifications – Position Requirements Master of Divinity or related degree preferred. Clinical Pastoral Education (minimum of two units preferred). A minimum of two years experience in providing services to older adults. Two years previous supervisory experience preferred. At least 18 years of age. Cleared Criminal Record clearance through the Department of Social Services prior to presence in the community. Health screening and TB test results not older than 6 months. Current First Aid Training and Certifications as per Title 22. Skills and Attributes Must possess a high degree of interpersonal relations skills and capability of relating to a variety of people and personalities. Sensitivity and knowledge of working with older adults and the aging process are essential. Ability to counsel residents and family in dealing with feelings about death and dying and other emotional, mental, environmental, or physical limitations. Must possess a high level of flexibility and tolerance to adjust to changes in work loads, assignments, hours, and days. Sensitivity and knowledge of working with older adults and the aging process. Ability to identify need, develop, and manage programs and systems simultaneously. Knowledge about dementia is highly desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of the aging process and implications of aging in a social setting. Must understand health care environment and the medical context for older adults.
