The Base Medical Manager provides direct patient care in accordance with company protocols and/or online medical direction.
Supervises base clinical staff in conjunction with Program Director for licensing, scheduling, assists in holding clinical staff accountable for performance expectations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Responsible for independently providing patient care and education to assigned transport patient populations(s) while ensuring safe and effective transport as described in the Medical Protocols / Standing Orders.
Establishes supportive relationships with patients, families, customers, and other members of the health care team through the use of positive interpersonal skills.
Provides support for administrative activities and serves as a mentor, resource, preceptor, and role model for colleagues.


• In addition to the standards listed below, the employee is also expected to demonstrate and exercise the duties and responsibilities included in the Professional Development policy of the Medical Operations manual.
Individual performance evaluation will include their performance of the duties included within their specific job description as well as other duties / responsibilities described throughout the Medical Operations Manual and the AirMed Company Manual.


• Acts as a resource to the Program Manager(s) and Medical Director(s) in matters related to nursing care, respiratory care, and/or paramedicine as applicable to their specific scope of practice.


• Serves as a leader and resource person for members of the Medical Team.


• Assists with determining team configurations (with the Program Manager(s), Clinical Manager and Medical Director(s)) based on patient report.


• Assists with coordination of staffing for transports and scheduling of Medical Team Members.


• Assists with recruitment and orientation of new medical team members.


• Assists with in-service sessions and educational labs for medical and flight personnel.


• Assists with maintaining current and accurate competency records on all medical personnel.


• Completes scheduled equipment checks and maintenance when necessary.


• Completes scheduled inventory, ordering, and receiving of supplies.


• Assists with writing and revising Medical Protocols / Standing Orders.


• Works with the Clinical Education Team to ensure that all staff are meeting and maintaining all requirements of the AirMed Education Plan.


• Coordinates follow-up calls on transferred patients and/or guest medical teams.


• Serves as a representative for the medical team during operational staff meetings.


• Maintains a constant state of regulatory readiness

• Assists with disciplinary action related to clinical staff in collaboration with Program Director and Clinical Manager(s)

• Assists in annual performance evaluations

Performance Standards:

• The Lead Medical Crew Member(s) must have a valid license for all countries and/or states of practice and/or clinical oversight and must maintain qualifications and experience level in all aspects of services provided.
Must be capable of performing the duties assigned to medical crew members as defined in the specific job description.


• The Lead Medical Crew Member(s) will participate in continuous quality improvement activities, reports results as required to QI Committee and administration, and completes call reviews per CQI plan and also as requested.


• Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor during performance of all duties as described.


• Maintain full flight status and be able to travel as needed

• Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

• Minimum of five years' experience in a critical or acute care setting appropriate to the patient population(s) to be transported

• Recommendation from appropriate supervisory personnel

• Successful Completion of the AirMed Transport Program Orientation

• Recognized as a leader among their peers

• Approval of the Program Director(s) and the DMO after demonstration of proficiency in air medical transport during a probationary period as determined by the Program Manager(s)

• CEVO/EVOC Instructor

Education:

• E.g.
Certified Flight Registered Nurse, Critical Care Registered Nurse, Flight Paramedic - Certified, Critical Care Paramedic-Certified, NPS, ACCS or equivalent preferred for Respiratory Therapists.


• Successful completion and/or audit of the Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course, International Trauma Life Support or appropriate equivalent

Skills:

Credentials/Licenses:

• Must hold a valid Nursing, Paramedic, and/or Respiratory License from the Country and/or State(s) of primary practice.


• Must hold current passport for unrestricted travel.


• Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support and Pediatric Life Support.


• Successful completion of National Specialty certification required within 12 months of hire date.
