Position Summary
The Billing Assistant is responsible for general billing duties as assigned by the Billing Manager.
This may include collecting, opening and routing mail, incoming and outgoing faxes, medical records requests, invoicing, sending letters and other relevant duties/projects as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
•Opens, sorts and routes incoming mail
•Disperses incoming faxes
•Collects mail at post office
•Handles in office tasks to include mailing of responses to insurance correspondence, attorney requests, verification requests, subpoenas and any other communication which cannot be sent electronically
•Scans and attaches correspondence to patient files in Salesforce
•Faxes or mails in claims as required by payor account
•Responds to medical records requests and invoices for same
•Send attorney follow up letters and lien request follow ups
•Updating tasks in Salesforce
•Sending new files to attorneys
•May manage all aspects of new files until sent to shipping
•Responds to correspondence from patients or payors in a timely manner
•Maintains accurate patient and payor information and document all account communications and actions
•May process appeals by sending supporting documentation.
•Keeps supervisor informed of any potential problems with account managers, payors or patients.
•Applies current company policies and procedures to all billings.
•Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
Experience / Qualifications
•Medical office or medical billing experience is desired, but not required
•Experience working with computers and telephones with good computer keyboarding skills
•Experience using email and Microsoft Outlook
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Organized, self-motivated, dependable, flexible and a problem solver
•Ability to work on a team environment
•Good math and reading comprehension skills
•Strong desire to learn and succeed
•This position will require regular in office attendance
Physical Requirements
General office environment that will include frequent or continuous periods of talking, sitting, fingering, repetitive motions of the hands/wrists, reaching, grasping and handling.
This position also requires occasional bending, squatting, standing, and walking.
Pushing, pulling lifting and carrying of up to 10 lbs.
is required on an occasional basis.
Good general vision and hearing are needed.
