We have an immediate need for a full-time, non-exempt Bookkeeper. The Bookkeeper supports the organization's growing Finance Team within the Operations department by managing the GIBL's financial data and compliance. The salary range for this position is $42,000 - $52,000 annually. As a full-time role, the Bookkeeper is eligible to participate in the organization's benefits program.
POSITION OVERVIEW (What we're looking for)
As an integral member of the Finance team, the Bookkeeper's role is critical to the success of the organization's mission-focused programs empowering all girls to be Smart, Strong, and Bold. The organization has experienced positive growth over the last five years and envisions a pathway to serving even more girls in the next 2-4 years. The dedicated work of the Finance Team supports the organization's good nonprofit standing, resource management, and ability to expand programs. The Bookkeeper reports to the Finance Director and handles the organization's government funding contracts, program fee collection and processing, weekly journal entry, and other financial functions to support the Finance Director's work and reporting. The Bookkeeper role is a hybrid position, in which the incumbent will be expected to work in-office at least three days per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES (What you'll be achieving) At a minimum, the Bookkeeper will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:
Contract Billing Support the financial management of GIBL's substantial School Age Child Care programMonthly billing to GIBL's Early Education and Care funding contract with the state of Massachusetts, including maintenance of GIBL's data in the state's portal system and follow-up to ensure receipt of fundsSupport overall maintenance of GIBL's EEC contract in conjunction with program staff as neededComplete monthly billing & funds receipt for various GIBL funding contracts with oversight & approval from the Finance DirectorCollaborate with program team members to process parent fees and maintain up-to-date data on program participants; weekly posting of tuition receiptsMaintain contract-related data as needed, such as calculating parent fees and updating Nutrition statuses Accounting Functions Provide support with monthly bank reconciliationsMonitor banking daily for incoming funds and obtain & process cash receipts using Sage accounting softwareAssist with check deposits for incoming funds via direct mailProcess credit card donations/payments, SQUARE, and cash receipts from fundraising eventsCode purchase orders/invoices for accounts payable, scan documents into various accounting and tracking software platformsAssist the Finance Director with other finance & accounting functions as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (What you'll bring along) Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. Equivalent years of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in finance or accounting at any level.
Required Qualifications: To be optimally successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Strong knowledge of accounting practices & procedures, including GAAP.
Strong mathematical/financial analysis skills.Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft programs including Excel and Outlook.Attention to detail.Strong organizational skills, especially related to maintaining documentation and financial records for posterity and compliance.Ability to sit at a computer for prolonged periods of time.Desire to advance the mission of GIBL.Passion for serving the community and empowering girls to be Smart, Strong, and Bold.Desire and ability to work seamlessly on a team and collaborate on day-to-day processes as well as continuous improvement.Ability to work independently. Desired Qualifications: Although not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
Knowledge of Massachusetts state funding contracts for nonprofits/childcare organizations is a plus.
Knowledge of nonprofit sector / nonprofit accounting standards.Familiarity with Sage accounting platform.Experience with Paychex, the HR and payroll service.
