The Breast Ultrasound Technologist performs screening and diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine breast tissue, provide quality images to the Radiologists for interpretation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Demonstrates competence in performing all breast ultrasound techniques and examinations according to established protocols and minor surgical procedures (i.e. cyst aspirations and biopsies). Modifies protocols to optimize each scan to best serve patients needs.
Demonstrates skill and knowledge in use of all standard ultrasound equipment and a solid foundation in ultrasound theory.
Consistently demonstrates technical proficiency in producing diagnostic breast scans with the ability to recognize anatomical structures that are visualized.
Produces high quality breast ultrasonograms; positions and transfers patients; selects proper technical factors; and selects and operates equipment as outlined in the departmental policy and procedure manual; refers to manual as necessary.
Routinely prepares examinations for interpretation by the Radiologist to include correct identification, adequate clinical history, and previous sonograms for comparison.
Demonstrates competency to provide preliminary assessment and to provide quantitative analyses.
Proficiently identifies breast pathology on all ultrasound procedures.
Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures
Participate in various teaching and mentoring of ultrasound students.
Able to perform imaging on all age groups.
Consults with the physician as applicable regarding the quality of images and data obtained
Qualifications
Education:

Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
Registered Radiology Technician specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
One or more of the following:

Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic
Medical Sonography (ARDMS)

Board certified in Breast US required after 6 months of hire
Experience:
Minimum of one year competency in diagnostic medical sonography preferred.
Proficient in real time, color flow, doppler, transvaginal, biopsies, interventional procedures.
Specific levels of knowledge in the following subspecialties, small parts, abdomen, obstetrics, gynecology, peripheral doppler, vascular (carotids).
