TITLE: Bus Aide
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 0.75 FTE / 9-month
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Bus Aide is assigned to special bus routes to assist the school bus driver and students while being transported to the District's regular and extracurricular programs.
This position provides assistance to students entering and exiting the vehicle and student health care support along with the general monitoring of the students on the bus.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES: Assist the bus driver to maintain a safe environment for students during operation, emergencies, and evacuations.
Assess potential emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect the safety and well-being of students and staff.
Assist students with safe loading and unloading of the bus.
Instruct passengers in the rules and regulations to maintain safety on the bus.
Assist in the implementation of strategies to manage student behavior and monitor students to ensure the safety of other students and staff on the bus.
Report observations and incidents and communicate them to appropriate district staff.
Secure students with safety equipment to ensure student and staff safety on the bus.
Assist bus drivers in the school bus post-trip checks.
Maintain a clean bus on a daily basis.
Meet or exceed the District dress code.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
Valid AZ Dept of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card First Aid Training and CPR Certificate.
Must be able to push, pull, or lift, up to 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate and work well with staff, students, and parents.
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Medium risk - Work is routinely performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time.
Requires standing in inclement weather including summer heat.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with medical needs of students Must maintain order among the students, supervises their behavior and enforces district conduct on the bus.
Works with students who need therapy, i.e.
OT, PT, Speech, etc.
Recognizes when a student is not feeling well (both verbal and non-verbal students) and provides basic first aid, as needed Operates various types of lift mechanisms, depending on the equipment installed.
Maneuvers heavy wheelchairs up ramps, over curbs, and around inside of bus without assistance Must use own initiative and judgment in performing job Participates in continuing education, workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth.
Performs other related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE OF: Standard practices, methods, and materials of assigned work.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
The evaluation is done by the Transportation Coordinator in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Bus Aide reports directly to the Transportation Coordinator.
