TITLE: Bus Aide
QUALIFICATIONS: Be 18 years of age and it is preferred a Spanish speaking individual.
Must have good communication skills and visual ability to observe children.
Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.
Personal or basic child care policy.
JOB SUMMARY: The Bus Aide assists in the safe and pleasant transportation of children enrolled in the program.
REPORTS TO: Bus Driver, Transportation Supervisor, and other administrative personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary, benefits and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from the program and on field trips on vehicles used by the program, including, but not limited to:
a.
Helping children board the bus safely, including helping teachers prepare for departure (putting on coats and assuring that each child has his/her own belongings);
b. Assuring that the bus driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle;
c. Helping children safely get off the bus and into the custody (only) of those individuals authorized to receive them; and
d. Retrieving any fallen objects during the bus ride.
2.
Follows and ensures mandated child restraint devise procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained (babies fastened in car seats, and seat belts for older children).
3.
Engages in activity that is:
a.
Safe and appropriate for a moving vehicle; and
b.
Consistent with Developmentally Appropriate Practices to make the trip pleasant and comfortable.
4.
In the event of an accident or emergency, assures the safe evacuation of children and adult passengers (following the Bus Evacuation Plan) and assists in assuring that all passengers are transported to the nearest hospital or to their private physician, as per Medical/Accident Emergency Plan.
5.
Assists in completing accident reports, when appropriate.
6.
Reports any traffic violations incurred by the Bus Driver to the Delegate Director of Site Supervisor.
7.
Attends all scheduled staff meetings, team meetings, and trainings, as requested.
8.
Supervises sign-in and sign-out procedures.
9.
Follows center's sick-child policy with regard to receiving children on the bus.
10.
Gives parents any notes or written materials sent from the center and distributes notes from parents to the appropriate center staff.
11.
Receives children's medicines from parents and returns them to parents.
12.
Answers parents' questions, if possible and tells them any pertinent information about the child's bus ride or condition.
13.
Assists in maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition.
14.
Assures that no child is ever left unsupervised on a bus.
15.
Performs other duties, as may be assigned.
