Title: Business SME - Statewide Security Coordinator
Duration: 6 Months with possible extension
Location: Augusta, ME (Position requires travel in Maine to multiple locations. Maine\NH residents preferred. Can be remote when not traveling)

The Statewide Cybersecurity Coordinator is a critical role designed to enhance cybersecurity coordination and outreach across local governments and statewide partners. This position will focus on creating and maintaining a consistent approach to cybersecurity readiness, best practices, and awareness, at various government levels and affiliated organizations throughout the state. The role addresses significant vulnerabilities by providing much-needed resources, knowledge, and support to local governments and other entities that may lack the capacity to implement effective cybersecurity measures independently.
Key Responsibilities: Advocate for and promote the adoption of cybersecurity best practices across local governments and organizations, leveraging resources such as the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP). Coordinate statewide cybersecurity efforts, ensuring alignment and collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve common cybersecurity goals. Identify gaps in cybersecurity resources among local governments and propose strategic changes to enhance their cybersecurity posture. Lead strategic planning and foster collaborative relationships with federal partners, state agencies, local governments, industry associations, and community groups to develop and execute a comprehensive cybersecurity outreach strategy. Develop and deliver educational materials, workshops, and outreach programs tailored to different levels of cybersecurity understanding and readiness across local governments and statewide partners. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in strategic planning, project management, or coordinating large-scale initiatives, ideally with a focus on cybersecurity or public sector projects. A degree or formal education in a relevant field such as cybersecurity, state or local emergency management, information technology, public administration, public sector coordination, or a related discipline. Familiarity with federal programs, including managing or working with federal grants or funding programs related to cybersecurity, is beneficial. Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and best practices, with experience in public sector operations preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Cybersecurity Expertise: In-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and current threats. Capable of applying this knowledge to develop effective strategies tailored to various levels of government. Strategic Planning: Proven ability to design and implement comprehensive cybersecurity plans that align with state and federal objectives. Project Management: Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple concurrent initiatives, manage resources effectively, and adhere to deadlines. Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, concise educational materials and convey complex information to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise. Collaboration: Strong ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including federal partners, state agencies, local governments, industry associations, and community organizations. Problem-Solving: Robust analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to identify vulnerabilities, assess risks, and propose strategic solutions to strengthen cybersecurity. Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate statewide initiatives, ensuring alignment and collaboration among all stakeholders to achieve unified cybersecurity goals. Adaptability: Flexibility to respond to evolving cybersecurity challenges and swiftly adjust strategies to counter emerging threats. Familiarity with Federal and State Programs: Knowledge of federal and state cybersecurity programs, including funding mechanisms like grants, to maximize support and resources for local government initiatives. Training and Outreach Development: Experience in designing and delivering training and outreach programs tailored to various levels of cybersecurity understanding and readiness. Impact:

Through coordinated efforts, education, and the promotion of best practices, the Statewide Cybersecurity Coordinator will contribute to a stronger and more resilient cybersecurity environment across the state.
Work Environment & Travel Requirements: While the position is primarily remote, there will be a need for in-person attendance at meetings and events, as well as occasional travel to various locations across Maine. The selected candidate should be prepared to travel as needed to effectively coordinate cybersecurity efforts and engage with stakeholders statewide.
