Position Summary:
The Camp Driver will be is responsible for safely transporting campers between different activity locations during weekend camps at Morgan's Camp.
This weekend role will operate a camp truck to pull the Wonder Wagon, a people-moving trailer.
The Camp Driver ensures timely, safe, and friendly shuttle services as campers navigate their busy schedules, while also maintaining vehicle safety and adhering to camp policies.
This Role plays a crucial part in providing safe, inclusive transportation for campers of all abilities.
Responsibilities: Shuttle Service: Operate a camp truck to transport campers, staff, volunteers, and guests using the Wonder Wagon trailer between activity areas as per the camp schedule.Transport Campers, Staff, Volunteers, and Guests to various points around camp using the designated people-mover trailer, "The Wonder Wagon".
Assist with the loading and unloading of riders on the Wonder WagonPull out, lift, and securely attach the wheelchair ramp to accommodate campers with mobility needs.Arrive on time for all responsibilitiesProvide passengers with a safety orientation and ensure all the safety of all passengers during their ride.
Conduct regular trips based on the camper schedule, adjusting for any delays or changes as needed.
While driving, respect and follow the Texas motor vehicle traffic laws and Morgan's Camp policies and procedures.
Safety & Vehicle Maintenance: Complete and log daily a safety checklist for all vehicles used for transportation.Report maintenance concerns to the appropriate Lead or Director.
Communicate immediately any problems with the vehicles to the Lead.Keep the camp truck and Wonder Wagon clean and adequately fueled.
Ensure that all safety equipment is in the emergency box in the vehicles and is operable. General Be knowledgeable about Morgan's Wonderland Camp, programs, policies, and procedures to ensure excellent customer service when providing assistance or answering questions of campers, guests, and visitors.
Attend training sessions and meetings to stay current on camp operations and protocolsBe responsible for knowing and adhering to policies and procedures contained in the camp manual.Actively support and promote a safe environment and ensure that proper safety precautions are being followed.
Mitigate risk whenever possible and make safety recommendations to all departments.
Ensure all equipment remains in proper working order and in compliance with operating procedures.Maintain facility, equipment, vehicles, and groups according to ACA, State and Federal regulations, and Morgan's standards.
Monitor and control systems, practice, and education as it relates to risk management and safety for participants/employees, especially child abuse reporting policies and procedures.
Provide support for camp activities, as needed.Assist with other camp duties as directed by the Camp Director or Leadership Team.Qualifications Education: A high school degree or equivalent requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageHold a Valid Texas Driver's licenseHave a clean driving record, which will be verified through a driving record, background check, and on-site driving skills verification.
The ability to operate various camp-approved vehicles, including pickup trucks with attached trailer.
Ability to pull out, lift and attach a wheelchair ramp.Commitment to the mission and core values of Morgan's Camp and the implementation of these values in all daily work activities.Must possess high levels of self-motivation, organization, and time management.Ability to deal with complex situations or issues and make effective, timely, and appropriate decisions.
Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures.
Working Conditions Primarily works on weekends, with shifts on Saturdays and some SundaysWork is performed in an outdoor environment.
Ability to drive for extended periods and recognize unsafe driving conditions.Ability to regularly lift up to approximately 50 pounds, operate a wheelchair ramp, and assist passengers in emergencies.
Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, or otherwise manipulate objects; ability to perform tasks requiring action of muscles or groups and foot and/or hand-eye coordination.
Visual and auditory acuity is required to identify safety hazards and identify and respond to environmental and other types of hazards as they relate to the camp operation.
Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
