JOB SUMMARY:
Performs diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures by utilizing equipment and computers, employing techniques and procedures in accordance with accepted age-appropriate standards of practice. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of magnetic field strength and practice of safe entry into the magnetic field by staff and patients.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communications skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
Performs or assists in performing Cardiac MR (research, clinical) procedures and/or diagnostic tests in addition to non-Cardiac MRI procedures.
Maintains working knowledge of variations in current protocols and imaging techniques for all Cardiac and non-Cardiac procedures.
Ensures availability and readiness of supplies and all equipment including items needed for emergencies and ability to react appropriately to emergency situations.
Provides instruction, education, and consultation to healthcare personnel, students, and patients to promote and improve quality of patient care.
Maintains files and compiles records according to procedure as required for accurate and current departmental records and/or reports.
Maintains coordination of activities with others and appropriate education/credentials to accomplish work objectives.
Participates in planning by establishing personal goals to support quality improvement efforts and contribute to the achievement of departmental objectives.
Ensures Cardiac imaging specific post processing procedures, such as ROIs for calculations of ejection fraction and wall motion, are performed properly using specified processing software as well as non-Cardiac post processing.
Participates in and trains appropriate staff to use post processing software for Cardiac imaging and reporting.
Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served to ensure patient's needs are met.
Physical Requirements:
Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently may be required to stretch, bend twist, squat or kneel in the daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing radiation.
Education, Experience and Certifications:
Graduate of AMA School of Magnetic Resonance Technology or graduate of an AMA School of Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology with prior MRI experience required. Must meet all required elements for advancement level as well as basic MR competencies as described in Cardiac MRI Technologist I competency. Registered by ARRT in MRI or registry eligible. BLS (CPR) Certification - Current CPR certification required.
