Education - Associates in Applied Science degree is required.
Course work or curriculum of previous experience should include: ultrasounds physics, anatomy and physiology, electrocardiography, cardiovascular pathophysiology, cardiovascular hemodynamic principles, cardiac history-taking, key aspects of cardiorespiratory physical diagnosis.
Experience - At least 6 months in 2-D and M-Mode echocardiography, preferred.
Skills - The ability to efficiently obtain quality images of the heart and the correct views to help the interpreting physician diagnose the problem.
Qualitative/quantitative production standards - Accuracy is of critical importance in this position.
Techniques and skills adequate to meet physicians' standards for quality of work and reliability of techniques.
Professional Membership - Membership in an echocardiography society or association is required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification required.
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) license through either ARDMS as Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within 2 years of start date.

To perform echocardiography to evaluate heart motion and heart disease.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions
• Reviews all requests for echocardiography procedures, consults with Medical Director of the Echocardiography Lab, and schedules patients.
• Performs echocardiographic procedures as requested, which include at minimum 2-D M-Mode, Doppler/Color Flow and Dobutamine Stress Echo.
Expedites completion of each procedure, and ensures that an exam worksheet is completed accurately and given to the interpreting physician.
• Any other function assigned by Manager, Cardiology Services or Lead Cardiac Sonographer.
Other Functions
• Miscellaneous office tasks.
PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated and look for signs of normal aging.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:
Routine patient contact, contact with nursing personnel, with some family member(s) of patient(s) and personnel within the department.
ENVIRONMENT:
Appropriately ventilated throughout the year.
Primary body position at work is standing (30%), sitting (40%) or walking (30%).
Pushes echo machine (250 lbs); patient in bed (300 lbs).
Lifts box of echo paper (20 lbs).
Risk factors include exposure to airborne diseases (80%) and blood/body fluids (20%).
Other risk factors include eye strain when using Echo machine monitor (90%).
