The Certified Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist CVT are qualified by specific didactic, laboratory, with clinical technological education to perform various cardiovascular/peripheral vascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The role of the Certified Cardiovascular Technologist may include but not limited to (1) reviewing and/or recording pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data; (2) performing appropriate clinical procedures and obtaining a record of anatomical, pathological and physiological data for interpretation by a physician; (3) participating in interventional cardiovascular/peripheral including balloon angioplasty, stent insertion.
The Certified Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist's (CVT) performs all required procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and invasive procedure laboratory, and operates specialized equipment including, but not limited to, PAC'S computer systems, hemodynamic monitoring and have working knowledge of all aspects of the cardiac catheterization and invasive procedure laboratory emergency patient care equipment.
Responsibilities to include but not limited to in Cardiac Cath Lab and Invasive Procedures: (1) Scrub: scrubs in, preps and drapes the patient, then assist the physician with equipment.
Equipment includes wires, needles, catheters.
(2) Circulate: Assist the scrub and physician during the procedure to providing equipment as needed.
Also attends to the needs of the patient as needed.
(3) Monitor: Continuous monitoring of the vital signs during the procedure.
Documents the procedure via hemodynamic monitoring system obtaining the intra cardiac/peripheral pressures.
Is responsible for interdepartmental communications with physicians, staff and nursing units.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school Allied Health Services Cardiovascular Technology Invasive Program with Certification AS (Associate of Science) degree.
Graduate from an accredited school Allied Health Services Cardiovascular Technology Invasive Program with Certification AS (Associate of Science) degree.
Completion of 500hrs PCI certified working in a Cardiac Cath Lab in Hospital with Open Heart Surgery program
Certification from accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular Technology Invasive Program.
BLS and ACLS certification required.
Registry eligible with RCIS or ARRT RT (R)
