Washington, MD Job Type: Career Job Number: 11964 Department: PGC Parks and Recreation Opening Date: 10/11/2024 Closing Date: 10/28/2024 11:59 PM Eastern Description The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation, Southern Region Parks Division is seeking applicants to fill a Carpenter II vacancy.
The selected candidate will perform the full range of difficult, skilled carpentry work involving considerable responsibility, complexity, and variety.
The incumbent will perform construction, maintenance, renovation, and repair of fine, rough, and finished carpentry work at Commission buildings, structures, and property.
The Carpenter II may direct activities of other Carpenters, Trade Trainees, and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trades workers.
The reporting location will be the Bock Road Maintenance Yard, in Ft. Washington, MD.
Reporting schedule: Monday through Friday from 6 am to 2:45 pm.

Examples of Important Duties Receives work orders for carpentry projects.
Reads and interprets building plans, blueprints, schematic drawings, and sketches to perform routine carpentry work.
Maintains safe and secure work sites.
Identifies and corrects safety hazards.
Uses a variety of manual and power carpentry tools to perform carpentry work on simple projects or assists on major projects.
Constructs, installs and repairs all Commission property and items requiring carpentry-related work.
Operates skid loader, man lift, forklift, and works on scaffolds and roofs.
Paints, stains, and finishes carpentry projects.
Builds custom cabinets, desks, shelves, doors, moldings, countertops, conference tables, and displays.
Performs minor concrete work associated with carpentry projects (e.g., setting post anchors and posts, footings for decks).
Completes required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping.
Drives motor vehicles to carry workers and haul tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to the job site.
Loads and unloads trucks of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials.
Sets up equipment and tools for safe operation at the job site.
Provides routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
Takes assigned vehicles to the garage for maintenance and repairs.
May guide and check the work of Trades Trainees and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support skilled trades workers.
Provides instruction on proper procedures and safety.
Inspects Commission buildings, structures, and property for damage and necessary repairs to detect problems or code violations, and ensure compliance with local codes.
As directed by supervisor, maintains, prepares, and initiates records.
Keeps inventory and supply records.
May collect or enter data into the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system and enter work order completion forms.
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
Completion of an approved carpentry apprentice program or four (4) years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.
Two (2) years of carpentry experience at the journey level.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required and must be in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
Pass Commission medical examination.
