Job Title: Hotel Carpenter
Job Description:
Position Overview: The Hotel Carpenter is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden structures, furniture, fixtures, and fittings within the hotel premises. They play a crucial role in ensuring the aesthetic appeal, functionality, and safety of interior and exterior spaces, contributing to the overall guest experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Carpentry Work: Perform a variety of carpentry tasks, including framing, installing doors and windows, building cabinets and shelving units, constructing partitions, and installing trim and molding, using a variety of hand and power tools. Furniture Repair and Maintenance: Repair and refurbish wooden furniture, fixtures, and fittings, including beds, tables, chairs, desks, closets, and decorative elements, to extend their lifespan and maintain their appearance and functionality. Finishing and Refinishing: Apply finishes, stains, varnishes, and paints to wooden surfaces to enhance their appearance and protect them from damage due to moisture, sunlight, and wear and tear. Customization Projects: Collaborate with interior designers, architects, and hotel management to design and fabricate custom-built furniture and fixtures that meet the specific needs and aesthetic preferences of the hotel. Structural Repairs: Identify and address structural issues such as wood rot, termite damage, and water damage in a timely manner to prevent further deterioration and ensure the structural integrity of buildings and installations. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards pertaining to carpentry work, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of tools and materials, and implementation of safety procedures. Material Procurement: Source and procure high-quality lumber, plywood, veneers, and other materials and supplies needed for carpentry projects, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budgetary constraints. Team Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and vendors involved in renovation, construction, and maintenance projects to ensure timely completion and quality craftsmanship. Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational training program or apprenticeship in carpentry or joinery is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as a carpenter, preferably in a hospitality or construction setting. Skills: Proficient knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools. Excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Certification: Optional, but may include certification in carpentry, joinery, or woodworking from a recognized institution or organization. Working Conditions:
The Hotel Carpenter may be required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate renovation, construction, and maintenance schedules. The role involves working in various indoor and outdoor environments, including guest rooms, public areas, mechanical rooms, and exterior spaces, sometimes in confined or elevated spaces. The Hotel Carpenter may be exposed to hazards such as sharp tools, splinters, dust, fumes, and noise, and must adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary. Overall, the Hotel Carpenter plays a vital role in enhancing the appearance, functionality, and safety of hotel facilities through skilled craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail in carpentry work.
