The wood door fabricator modifies architectural grade wood doors as required to properly accommodate hardware applications within the code indicated for the ultimate application.
Essential Functions Set up, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot fabricating machines, such as saws, drill presses, lathes, shapers, routers, sanders, planers, mill end, wood nailing machines, jointers, mortisers, molders, and shapers Determine product specifications and materials, layout, work methods, and machine setup requirements, according to oral or written instructions, drawings, or work orders independent of supervision Examine raw wood stock for defects, and to ensure conformity to size and other specification standards Adjust machine tables or cutting devices and set controls on machines to produce specified cuts or operations Trim wood parts according to specifications, using planes, chisels, and wood files or sanders Inspect and mark completed work pieces and stack them on pallets, in boxes, so that they can be moved to the next workstation.
Examine finished work pieces for smoothness, shape, angle, depth-of-cut, and conformity to specifications, and verify dimensions, visually and using hands, tape measures, calipers, templates Attach parts and subassemblies together to form completed units, using glue, dowels, nails, screws and or clamps Check and assist shipping and receiving personal that pulls wood doors from inventory or finished modifications that are completed Perform routine maintenance on equipment in a safe manner and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed Install and hang frames and doors as well as hardware such as (but not limited to) closers, hinges, locks, thresholds, and sweeps, in the field as needed Maintain the organization and cleanliness of the wood shop Assist in stocking and everyday help keep material organized in the wood door warehouse to maintain proper inventory status Assist in the wood door shop with various tasks, such as undercuts, plastic laminate, lite kit cutouts, and dotul door machine Other relative duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education/experience Current and valid US driver's license preferred Forklift certification preferred At least 1 year of experience woodworking with related products
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of architectural door materials and hardware Ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly Accomplished in the use of power tools required for the work Quick reaction time, precise control, good manual dexterity, keen focus, and the ability to creatively and thoughtfully problem solve as it relates to the work Strong oral and written expression and comprehension skills Ability to work overtime as needed
Physical DemandsRepetitive squatting, bending, twisting, reaching, walking, and standing throughout the day.
Frequent lifting required of items 50+ pounds.
Work Environment Subject to frequent heavy lifting.
May require driving to project sites.
May be exposed to variable weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures.
Other conditions may include proximity to forklifts or other heavy machinery and using various tools, hardware, and machinery.
