Position Description Summary/Purpose:
Goodwin University is looking for a full-time driver for a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
Setup and breakdown of equipment is required.
Candidate should possess a technical/manufacturing background or willing to learn.

Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods. Maintain logs of working hours of vehicle service and/or repair status, fuel receipts, trip mileage, etc., following applicable state and federal regulations. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers, or other appropriate means. Set up and break down equipment in trailer. Works a flexible schedule. Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed. Other Functions: Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation permits. Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends. Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort. Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Must possess current, class A commercial drivers' license Team player, collaborator, follows directions Must be flexible and adaptable Self-starter who can manage their own time, and prioritize duties and responsibilities, with limited supervision Demonstrates ability to solve problems and employ critical thinking skills Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, laws, statutes, guidelines and strategies for operating commercial vehicles in Connecticut Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and individual services including, but not limited to stakeholder needs in meeting quality standards for services Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and work in an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience: Experience includes a technical/manufacturing background or willing to learn. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, proper use, repair, and maintenance Controlling operations of equipment or systems Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly Monitoring/Assessing self-performance, or operations to make improvements or take corrective action, as needed Special Requirements: Class A commercial drivers license.
