Position Description Summary/Purpose:
Goodwin University is looking for a full-time driver for a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).
Setup and breakdown of equipment is required.
Candidate should possess a technical/manufacturing background or willing to learn.
Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

* Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
* Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting goods.
* Maintain logs of working hours of vehicle service and/or repair status, fuel receipts, trip mileage, etc., following applicable state and federal regulations.
* Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers, or other appropriate means.
* Set up and break down equipment in trailer.
* Works a flexible schedule.
* Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions:
* Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation permits.
* Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
* Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
* Must possess current, class A commercial drivers' license
* Team player, collaborator, follows directions
* Must be flexible and adaptable
* Self-starter who can manage their own time, and prioritize duties and responsibilities, with limited supervision
* Demonstrates ability to solve problems and employ critical thinking skills
* Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits
* Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, laws, statutes, guidelines and strategies for operating commercial vehicles in Connecticut
* Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and individual services including, but not limited to stakeholder needs in meeting quality standards for services

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
* Experience includes a technical/manufacturing background or willing to learn.
* Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, proper use, repair, and maintenance
* Controlling operations of equipment or systems
* Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
* Monitoring/Assessing self-performance, or operations to make improvements or take corrective action, as needed
Special Requirements:
* Class A commercial drivers license.
