Job Description: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Location: Lt. Col Luke Weathers Jr VA Medical Center, Memphis, TN
Position Type: Contract
Schedule: Minimum of 8-hour shifts (7:30 am–4:00 pm, 3:30 pm–12:00 am, 11:30 pm–8:00 am) and maximum of 12-hour shifts (7:00 am–7:00 pm or 7:00 pm–7:00 am)
Key Responsibilities Direct Patient Care: -Provide personal hygiene care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming.
-Assist with patient meals, ambulation, and mobility needs, including lifting and moving patients safely.
-Deliver a full range of nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN).
Observation and Documentation: -Perform close observation of patients and document behavior, activities of daily living (ADLs), and physical care on patient flow sheets as directed by the RN.
-Record vital signs, intake and output, and other clinical data such as weight and height.
Clinical Support: -Provide support in clinical tasks, such as:
-Collecting urine, stool, and sputum specimens.
-Setting up and monitoring oxygen equipment and suction devices.
-Assisting with foley care and chest suction equipment assembly.
-Recognize and respond to emergent situations, such as falls, behavioral crises, and the need for basic life support (BLS).
Communication and Reporting: -Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
-Report any changes in a patient's mental or physical condition immediately to the assigned nurse or charge nurse.
-Serve as a preceptor for new CNAs, overseeing their orientation and practical clinical experience.
Requirements Certifications: -Active CNA certification.
-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
Skills and Qualifications: -Strong ability to assist in nursing care for patients with physical and/or behavioral challenges.
-Proficient in recognizing emergent care situations and intervening appropriately.
-Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
-Ability to perform detailed documentation and ensure compliance with care standards.
