POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW Title : Chef
Reports To : Kitchen Manager
Schedule : Mon -Tues & Fri - Sun
Compensation : $20.73 - $22.23/hr
$1000 bonus after a year of employment.
Job Classification : Hourly, Non-exempt, 40 Hours/Week
Union Representation : This position is represented by the AFSCME Local 999
The Chef is responsible for preparing and delivering lunch and dinner service by providing a high standard of fresh food during client serving times. Also be able to undertake a varied list of food preparation for the kitchen on a daily basis and take full responsibility and accountability for the lunch and dinner shift. Additionally, ensuring that all policies and procedures laid down by management are implemented. Further duties include, but are not limited to:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS Take control of the meal service and ensure guests receive a truly delicious and memorable lunch and dinner. Cooking and managing meal service. Setting up and cleaning down the kitchen after lunch and dinner. Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and hygienic at all times. Ensure all stocks are kept under optimum conditions. Ensure all dishes are being prepared to the correct recipe and to the correct quantity. Ensure the department is operated within the appropriate legislation and the appropriate records are maintained and up-to-date. Ensure any anticipated issues are communicated promptly to the Kitchen Manager. Ensure all staff under your control are treated fairly and with courtesy. Personal grooming and appearance standards are met regarding cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene. Adhere to Health and Safety policies and regulations. Have a good knowledge on health and safety, hygiene, equal opportunities, HIPAA and any other legislation. Able to handle pressure calmly and professionally. Carry out any other duties as required by management. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION Heavy work - Standing and moving continuously. Occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently , and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 2+ years of proven work experience as a Chef or Cook. Certified Food Handler with the MN Department of Health is preferred. Passion for cooking and producing high quality food. Excellent time management skills. Ability to remain calm and undertake various tasks. Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment. Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes. Must be able to pass a background check with the Department of Human Services Ability to remain compliant with the MN Department of Health Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills Must possess basic computer skills Ability to lift 10-40lbs, 50+lbs with team lift In addition, successful applicants will embrace the following perspective, skills and abilities:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Lived experience of homelessness. Fluency in languages used by our clients (Spanish, Amharic, Oromo, Somali, ASL) SERVICE ANNIVERSARY BONUS PROGRAM This role is eligible for a $1000 service anniversary bonus after a year of employment.
REFERRAL BONUS PROGRAM Do you know someone who you think would be a good fit for a position at our organization? Please refer them! Agate Housing and Services offers a $250 bonus to employees who refer qualified candidates for current openings. The referring candidate must clearly state the name of the employee who referred them in the section of the application that requests this information.
The Referral Bonus Form must be submitted to Human Resources no later than 30 days after the referred employees begin employment. Any Referral forms submitted after 30 days will not be processed.
To be eligible for rewards, candidates must be hired as permanent full or part-time employees (this excludes on-call, employees, temporary employees, interns or contract workers).
