Objectives:
The Chemist I is a lab-based position in the B+L Quality organization and will perform, document, and/or review chemical and physical tests on raw materials, finished products, and components according to established procedures. May participate in Quality Control equipment qualifications; new method development, transfer and validation; and continuous improvement activities.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct chemical and physical tests on raw materials, finished products, and components according to established procedures in support of products/processes and continual improvement efforts.
• Perform hands-on testing with HPLC (Waters/Empower), GC, titrations, and other common chemical laboratory techniques.
• Perform laboratory analyses with a high degree of attention to detail and cGMP practices to achieve a high percentage of right-first-time results in accordance with data integrity requirements.
• Perform nonconformance and laboratory investigations for out of tolerance/out of specification data generated in the Quality Control laboratory.
• The collaborative nature of this position requires that the individual work as part of a team, communicate openly with others and accept responsibility for timely execution of experiments intended to provide chemical understanding for new product development, process improvements, manufacturing issues, customer complaints, or quality failures.
• Document and review procedures and test results. Prepare reports, as appropriate. Communicate results to the team.
• Assist with general laboratory housekeeping including cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of analytical laboratory instruments.
• Maintain on-the-job knowledge and skills by participating in applicable training.
• Review other team members' test data.
• Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by following standards, procedures, and company regulations.
Qualifications and experience:
• BS in Chemistry, or related field, with a minimum of 1 year in chemical laboratory/analytical experience preferably in an FDA regulated industry OR AAS in Chemistry, or related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years on-the-job experience in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry, or equivalent through specialized training.
• Analysis of raw materials/finished products/final dosage forms.
• Experience with analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV/VIS spectroscopy and other wet chemistry techniques, titrations, and dissolution.
• Excellent oral and written communication along with organizational skills are required.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting pay for this role is between $58,500.00 and $75,000.00. The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-term incentives.
