Full job description Job Summary HeartShare Human Services of New York, a distinguished non-profit organization, is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Accountant to provide fiscal oversight. The Chief Accountant will play a vital role in analyzing and interpreting complex financial data while ensuring compliance with all internal and external accounting requirements.
The Chief Accountant (Director of Grants) is expected to analyze and interpret complex financial data and ensure all accounting work is performed in accordance with all internal and external requirements. Additionally, the Chief Accountant must maintain orderly files for all work papers and detail schedules, lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, and participate as needed in all internal and external fiscal meetings.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position: Financial Oversight:
Provide fiscal oversight for one or more HeartShare subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and organizational guidelines.
Analyze and interpret complex financial data to assess financial health, trends, and potential risks.
Ensure that all accounting work is performed in accordance with internal and external requirements, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant guidelines.
Oversee daily banking and financing functions.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and oversee the accurate and timely generation of financial statements, reports, and analyses for management and stakeholders.
Prepare cash flow and annual administrative budget. Analyze quarterly close variance reports.
Review financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement, providing insightful recommendations and solutions.
Oversee CFR, SSOP, financial audit, 990 preparations, and compliance reports for funding agencies.
Closing Process and Record Keeping:
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, ensuring accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting.
Maintain orderly files for all work papers and detail schedules, adhering to document retention policies.
Coordinate the preparation and review of documentation for external auditors.
Participation in Fiscal Meetings:
Actively participate in internal and external fiscal meetings, presenting financial data and insights to relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial expertise and guidance.
Policy and Procedure Maintenance:
Update and maintain accounting-related policies and procedures to reflect current best practices, industry standards, and organizational needs.
Ensure that all accounting activities are aligned with established policies and procedures.
Manage and assist in special projects as assigned by the Vice President of Finance.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree from four year college or equivalent. Extensive experience in financial management, in particularly Revenue Cycle, Grant management, accounting, and fiscal oversight in a non-profit organization. Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant accounting standards. Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools. Excellent written, oral, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Experience with NetSuite is preferred. Previous supervisory experience required.
