Job Description: Chief Estimator - Tunneling Projects Overview: As a Chief Estimator specializing in tunneling projects, you will play a pivotal role in leading and overseeing all estimating activities for our company.
This role requires a deep understanding of tunneling and heavy civil projects, along with strong leadership skills to supervise and guide the estimating team.
Responsibilities: Lead, review, and approve all estimating activities related to tunneling projects.Conduct comprehensive reviews of contract plans, specifications, and other bid documents to ensure accuracy and completeness.Supervise and mentor estimating personnel dedicated to tunneling bids.Identify and assess major and unique items in Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).Engage with major subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations.Prepare detailed comparison sheets using HCSS (HeavyBid) software.Address Diversity/Minority/Women Business Enterprise (D/M/WBE) requirements and develop plans to fulfill these obligations.Develop concise and compelling write-ups and documentation for Statements of Qualifications (SOQs) and RFP responses.Prepare and organize all bid and proposal submission documents.Establish Joint Venture (JV) manuals and set up bids accordingly for collaborative projects.Price bid items accurately and collaborate with project teams for comprehensive bid reviews.Coordinate timelines for equipment procurement and logistics to support project needs.Delegate assignments and oversee the work of estimators involved in take-off activities.Maintain effective communication with owner's representatives, clients, and JV partners throughout the bidding process.Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field from an accredited institution; or equivalent experience (14+ years) in estimating, project management, or construction if degree requirements are not met.10+ years of experience in tunneling and heavy civil projects, with a strong focus on estimating.Minimum 5 years of specific experience in estimating for tunneling projects.Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills with at least 5 years of experience leading estimating teams.Proficiency in construction management software including HCSS (HeavyBid), Primavera P6, Procore, or similar platforms.Ability and willingness to travel up to 15-20% as required for project needs.This role offers an exciting opportunity for a seasoned estimator to lead and contribute to significant tunneling projects, leveraging expertise in estimating and project management to drive successful bids and project outcomes.
