Chief Finance and Operations Officer About Positive Coaching Alliance With the recent merger with Coaching Corps in April 2022, Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) has accelerated their ability to be a transformational force in the youth sports field dedicated to making youth sports positive, equitable, and accessible.

By partnering with youth sports organizations, professional sports leagues, schools, youth-serving organizations, and local community constituents, the organization's 60 staff members and 150 experienced PCA trainers provide partners with training and support for coaches, parents, athletes, and youth sports administrators to assist them in creating a positive youth sports culture for all kids, regardless of social or economic circumstance.
PCA is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area and operates via a national footprint of local PCA regions (located primarily in major metropolitan areas) with committed local non-governing Boards.
The Opportunity Positive Coaching Alliance is seeking a big picture and proactive financial leader who will serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, Executive Team, and the Board in guiding the financial and operational direction of the organization. The Chief Finance and Operations Officer (CFOO) will be highly skilled and seasoned in building an effective finance function as well as partnering to develop and implement strong infrastructure systems in a complex organization with an eye on equity, risk management, and compliance. This leader will align with PCA's organizational values to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively with the Executive Team, staff, Board, funders, vendors, and external partners.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFOO provides leadership for the financial and administrative business of the organization, and oversees Finance, Administration, Risk Management, IT, and HR. The successful candidate will provide the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure PCA has strong strategic financial planning and analysis, proper financial and operational controls and administrative procedures, and excellent IT and HR support and systems in place to ensure success at meeting organizational goals. The CFOO is responsible for four direct reports (Finance, HR, Tech, Admin Leads) and six indirect reports.
The CFOO will serve as a key resource across constituents and will be highly effective in translating complex financial data into understandable concepts that allows for effective decision making. With impeccable interpersonal skills, the CFOO will establish and cultivate excellent working and meaningful relationships across the organization.
Candidate Profile The Chief Finance and Operations Officer will be a seasoned and confident servant leader with a "team first" mentality. They will be a collaborative leader with demonstrated success as a team player with diverse colleagues and other field leaders. The CFOO will bring a willingness to work hands-on, developing and executing a variety of activities ranging from the internal day-to-day operations, to the highly strategic, creative, and visible.
Successful candidates will have previous experience as a senior finance executive with 10 years+ of senior level leadership in finance with C-level financial fluency, and 5-7 years of senior level leadership in operations. This leader will bring experience managing/leading a complex national non-profit organization with local Boards and/or affiliates and overseeing continual improvement to the organization's technology infrastructure. A bachelor's degree is required. MBA/CPA highly preferable. Experience with NetSuite and Salesforce is desirable.

The CFOO will build, nurture, and retain a strong team of professionals focused on excellence, accountability, and efficiency. This leader will balance the ability to delegate and provide support to the team when needed. The CFOO will be flexible in adjusting as priorities emerge and change, with the ability to balance multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. In addition, the CFOO will be a forward-thinking and calm leader, staying abreast of trends, anticipating potential issues/questions, doing the right thing without being asked to, managing crises, helping navigate an organization during times of growth and transition, and driving sustainable outcomes.
Financial & Operational Excellence The Chief Finance and Operations Officer will be an experienced leader in the field of finance and accounting with a deep skill set in financial strategy and analysis and a track record of success working in complex organizations with diverse revenue streams. This leader will be knowledgeable of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for nonprofits with analytical skills and experience in compensation and benefits, risk management, audit, compliance, contract negotiation, cash flow management, investment of funds, and finance including, budget preparation and management, both long- and short-term organizational financial planning, and budget projections.
The CFOO will be skilled in translating complex financial and measurement data into Board level visualizations with fluent and informed recommendations. This leader will have a high level of business acumen and judgment, with the ability to make practical, realistic, data driven, and timely decisions. The CFOO will have demonstrated expertise in a wide range of operational functions and will have knowledge of industry standard tools and metrics.
Change Management and Organizational Development An effective change manager, the CFOO will bring a measurable track record in business process optimization including streamlining operations, eliminating redundancies, improving communication, and forecasting. The CFOO will have the ability and experience to assess the existing finance organizational structure to ensure optimal performance and alignment to present and future organizational needs. This individual will have an inclusive approach with the ability to gain consensus working with a diverse group of constituents. The CFOO will have a high level of technical acumen, enlisting technology to streamline processes. This leader will be an exceptional problem solver with a strong project management background focused on achieving sustainable solutions.
Excellent Communication, Relationship Building, and Collaboration Skills The Chief Finance and Operations Officer will have excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively, both orally and in writing to a diverse group of constituents. This leader will possess the ability to extract key learnings from the financial data, make them relatable, and clearly translate the financials to a broad audience. The CFOO will be an engaged leader and inspire others to work together to achieve a common purpose, guided by the organization's strategic priorities and values.
A strong collaborator, the Chief Finance and Operations Officer will partner across all departments and functions to understand and support their needs. This leader will patiently work to become culturally attuned and, like a great coach, will seek to personally and operationally enable colleagues to shine and do their best work. The CFOO will have the experience and credibility to inspire the confidence of internal and external constituents.
Key Responsibilities Lead the Finance team and the full range of financial and accounting functions and systems so that financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and business intelligence provides meaningful information for data-driven decision making at the executive leadership and Board levels.Provide C-level financial analysis and forecasting and analysis of internal operations and make recommendations for increased efficiencies and impact to the Chief Executive Officer and Finance and Operations Committee of the Board of Directors.Ensure the accuracy and integrity of PCA's financial information, reporting and disclosure requirements, internal controls, and other compliance requirements, including adherence with all state and federal laws relative to a 501(c)(3) organization.Oversee the annual financial statements audit and IRS Form 990 tax processes, including ensuring the audit firm receives all necessary information.Lead the process to identify the cost of our impact metrics and make recommendations to decrease costs by increasing efficiencies.Administer purchasing and investment policies and recommend changes, as necessary.Review and recommend appropriate insurance coverage on behalf of PCA.Manage Information Technology leadership in the ongoing implementation of a multi-phased technology road map (finishing up phase three and launching phase four of six), assessment of organizational technology needs, and enhancement of organizational and departmental technology infrastructure.Ensure the necessary IT systems are in place, including desktop support, security, and work environments.Oversee Human Resources' leadership to identify, develop, and retain top talent, while ensuring that all HR support systems (e.g., policies, compensation, benefits) are fair, progressive, reflect best practices and align with PCA's mission and vision, and follow local/state regulatory bodies.Oversee Administration to ensure that support staff and operations solutions connect with staff's business needs.Ensure legal and regulatory compliance and appropriate risk mitigation through the timely review and approval of all PCA's policies, contracts, and agreements.Compensation & Benefits Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $195,000 - $225,000 with a generous benefits package.
