Position Summary: GLIDE is searching for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with a strong background in financial leadership, particularly in the context of driving financial strategies, compliance initiatives, and managing our contractual billing, P/L cashflow oversight. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing financial best practices, in addition to providing guidance to the executive team and board of directors, and overseeing all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, contracts, RFP budgeting/forecasting, and financial reporting.
A key aspect of the role is the ability to analyze financial data, manage cash flow, contractual invoicing/billing and to identify and address financial risks and opportunities. This role requires a candidate with strong financial acumen, sharp analytical skills, and the ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels of the organization. Strategic thinking, a solid understanding of financial regulations, and a demonstrated track record of driving financial performance and operational excellence are also necessary.
Principal Responsibility: We are seeking a CFO to work alongside the President and CEO, and the Board of Directors to develop new sources of revenue in alignment with our financial goals and values. The Chief Financial Officer will ensure the overall fiscal health of the organization has integrity and that we are excellent stewards of our resources. The ideal candidate will be able to translate financial strategies into actionable plans, and will lead with a high level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties can be assigned, and the duties and responsibilities of the job are subject to change without notice.
Financial Strategy:Lead financial planning for the organization, including short-term and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for internal and external use.Participate in organization-wide strategic planning in conjunction with the Executive Team.Oversee organizational risk management which includes identifying, evaluating, and preventing risks by implementing assessment protocols and controls.Build a reporting infrastructure that provides a comprehensive and consistent method of reporting financial data that supports the management and control of finances, revenue streams, donations and expenses.Represent the organization to financial partners, including financial institutions, lenders, auditors, public officials, and donors.Ensure compliance with all corporate governance requirements, including updates to corporate bylaws. Work with the President/CEO and the appropriate Board committees to establish and monitor policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of compliance and transparency for the organization.Manage the budget for the organization, including the development of priorities, fiscal modeling projections/forecasts, and presentations for the Board of Directors.Collaborate with the President/CEO to develop the multi-year annual operating budget and secure approval from the Finance Committee and the Board. Manage the ongoing annual budgeting and long-range forecasting process to ensure the integrity of all financial information.Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for all financial-related activities including financial policies, expense policies, reserve policies, and investment policies.Financial Management:Develop and oversee implementation of all financial reporting, both internal and external. Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting.Develop and oversee implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of organization financial systems, including general ledger, monthly financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, investment portfolio, and reporting to outside agencies.Oversee and lead all annual audits. Stay up to date on nonprofit accounting best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.Review and ensure the application of appropriate internal controls, SOX compliance, and financial procedures. Work closely with outside auditors and the Audit Committee of the Board to ensure the audited financial statements are streamlined, transparent, and readable with a clean auditor opinion.Oversee Glide's real estate portfolio and support the Board Real Estate Committee.Support capital campaign financials and fundraising.Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.Review and improve the chart of accounts, current accounting systems, control procedures, audit preparation, financial documentation and finance team workflows.Oversee cash, investment, and retirement plan assets.Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.Ensure GLIDE remains on budget and that services are scaled to financial means and assets are safeguarded through the maintenance of proper controls.Maintain and administer general insurance programs.Minimum Qualifications:5 - 10+ years progressively responsible nonprofit accounting experience, including management and supervision of accounting programs; experience managing $10 million plus budget required.6 – 10 years experience working as a CFO in a mid-to-large ($10MM+) organization, preferably nonprofit. Experience managing Board engagement.MBA, CPA or equivalent combination of education and/or professional certification.Excellent financial acumen with experience working with contractual billing and management, and fiscal/reimbursement internal controls. Experience overseeing revenue cycles, P/L cashflow, contract billing/invoicing, reimbursement systems and accounting platforms.Experience working with and managing organizational audits, internal controls and systems.Demonstrated leadership ability and executive presence – ability to lead and manage a mid-size staff.Experience working with and managing large Board committees.Negotiating collective bargaining agreements, a plus.Data-driven mindset and excellent quantitative and analytical skills.Experience evaluating and implementing new financial and accounting systems and utilizing technology to drive process improvement.Excellent presentation, interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills.Experience with Blackbaud/Financial Edge, Adaptive, and/or Concur.Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty.Work Environment:GLIDE's buildings are located in the Tenderloin neighborhood.GLIDE maintains an "open door" policy to the community and its clients, who frequently enter and leave the building.$250,000 - $275,000 a year
