The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports directly to the SVP/Chief Medical Officer/Chief Strategy Officer, with a dotted line to the President of PHP and HMS. The CMO is the primary physician leader responsible for overseeing functions related to the quality of care, access, productivity, and performance of PHP Medical Group operations, in coordination with the VP of Group Operations. In conjunction with the COO of HMS, the CMO directs and oversees the daily operations of the IPA, as well as all functions related to MSO such as utilization management, quality management, and claims. On occasion, the CMO may provide direct care services at any PIH Health Hospital or Clinic.
This position requires a deep understanding of medical group operations, medical management, care management, and peer review. The CMO must have proven expertise in quality management, safety, and clinical effectiveness. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CMO is accountable for leading in a manner consistent with the organization's mission, values, leadership model, and customer service philosophy. The CMO assists the VPs and System CMO in developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures, including physician recruitment that spans the continuum of care from ambulatory to inpatient and post-acute. The focus is to achieve strategic objectives and ensure that the overall quality of medical care delivered meets or exceeds current medical standards, both in substance and perception, while adhering to pertinent health plan policies, guidelines, and benefits. Excellent listening and communication skills are essential to lead the group culture and achieve and sustain excellent performance.
