Position SummaryThe Chief Nursing Officer will have a wide variety of roles including Nursing Duties, Administrative, Leadership and Advisory Roles, as well as Liaison with Physicians. The CNO directs nursing practice in the Hospital, oversees Nursing, CPU and Infection Control units, and maintains consistent and high-quality standards of patient care. Establish a nursing governance structure which will develop and deploy nursing policies, objectives, and initiatives for the department. Participates and fosters open communication and collaboration in the development of hospital-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how the care needs of patient populations are assessed, evaluated and met.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManages the resources (e.g. staff, materials, and finances) of the Nursing department; plans and directs all nursing activities in that facility.Drives the delivery of quality and cost-effective patient care; oversees the performance of nursing staff.Regulates nurse credentialing and advances the overall competency level of nursing staff; coordinates quality enhancement and process improvement tasks.Implements effective and ongoing programs to measure, assess, and improve the quality of care/services provided to patients/customers.Provides clinical and managerial leadership for patient care, ancillary and support services.Ensures that Performance Improvement functions are performed in Nursing departments.Participates in planning, marketing, and improving the services of the Hospital.Appropriately represents the Hospital in external organizations.Serves as a management liaison with the Chief of Staff to promote an optimal relationship between medical staff and patient care services, including Medical Staff committees.Facilitates resolution of administrative/patient issues which cannot be resolved at a lower level.Prepares, monitors and evaluates nursing department budgets.Assures patient care service compliance with accrediting and regulating agency requirements.Determines and maintains appropriate personnel, supplies and equipment to ensure delivery of optimal patient care, including annual performance evaluations.Institutes and revises all nursing care policies and procedures consistent with regulations and professional standards of practice.Directly responsible for the outcomes of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) which promotes and measures appropriate antimicrobial use.Key member of the Infection Control and Surveillance Committee (IPSC) which identifies infectious disease processes and prevents and controls the transmission of infectious agents within the hospital and ancillary clinics.Establishes the functions and qualifications for each nursing position and related departments.Responsible for personnel management functions for nursing departments and communicates decisions and concerns to Human Resources as necessary.Recommends changes to the CEO of clinical services offered.Supports and promotes the mission and policies of the hospital.Follows Hospital and Department policies and procedures at all times.Attends, actively participates and completes in-services, training classes, mandatory classes, seminars/workshops, staff meetings, exercises and drills; reads all department communication and assigned materials.Provides excellent customer service and shows compassion to all patients, visitors and co-workers.Keeps manager and team informed of progress, problems, development and plans.Interacts positively with co-workers and others.FREEDOM TO ACT/ACCOUNTABILITY The Chief Nursing Officer carries out the duties as described and enlists the advice and/or judgment of the CEO as needed. The Chief Nursing Officer is accountable to the CEO and enlists the services of various department managers as needed.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS The Chief Nursing Officer has contact with patients, the general public, nursing staff, other hospital staff, Human Resources, physicians, state/city health agencies, and the CEO.
QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Nursing (e.g. BSN) or related field; Master's degree in nursing or other related fields (e.g., MSN/MBA/MHA) preferred.Registered Nursing License (RN) in state of practice.Minimum of ten (10) years of nursing experience and five (5) years of nurse leadership experience.Evidence of leadership, creativity, integrity, initiative and communication skills.Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.Four years of experience in nursing supervision with evidence of continuing education directly related to the job specification.Physical RequirementsWhile performing the duties of this job, staff is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and/or listen. He/she uses hands to do computer work, write reports, do equipment set-up/cleaning/storage, clerical support, etc. He/she will be using the phone frequently. Good vision is needed to be able to read schedules, enter accurate data, etc. He/she must have good general health and demonstrate emotional stability to carry out the above-enumerated duties.
Able to lift up to 30 pounds.Stand, walk, and move 50% of the day.Use proper body mechanics when handling equipment.Compliance RequirementsComplies with Chinese Hospital Compliance Handbook including Code of Ethics and all statutes, regulations, guidelines applicable to federal and state programs. Responsibilities include following the guidelines and reporting suspected violations of any statute, regulations, agreements or guidelines applicable to all healthcare programs.
Base Pay ScaleStarting at $232,003 – $310,235 per year. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
