FrameWorks Institute is seeking a Chief of Staff.
Location: Washington, DC, with the possibility of remote work.
DescriptionAbout the Role FrameWorks Institute is seeking a Chief of Staff who will partner with the CEO and other members of the senior leadership team to design and implement organization-wide initiatives to ensure: cross-departmental integration; efficient internal functioning of the organization; strong organizational culture anchored in values of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and effective application of the CEO's time and attention toward internal organizational management initiatives.
The Chief of Staff will manage key leadership bodies, processes, and projects, working closely with a multitude of stakeholders to keep priority initiatives moving forward and aligned with the organization's mission. The Chief of Staff will oversee the maintenance of a strong organizational structure and culture to support FrameWorks' staff as they carry out the organization's mission.
The person in this role will have impeccable discretion, an unflappable approach, and excellent relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
The position reports to the CEO.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C, with the possibility of remote work. There is an expectation to come to the DC office for key team meetings and the likelihood of additional travel in connection with conferences, meetings, and other events.
Key ResponsibilitiesBe a member of the Senior Management team and serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor to the CEO and the Senior Management Team regarding strategy implementation and organizational culture.Support the creation and implementation of strategic priorities, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary.Assist in managing the CEO's time to advance internal priorities and ensure effective high-level decision-making on internal organizational management.Co-create agendas for Senior Management Team, Management Team, and Staff Meetings to ensure meetings are productive, participants have all the information they need, decisions are made, and plans are created for moving forward.Develop systems for strong internal communications so that teams are well informed, information flows from senior teams to all staff and back from staff to senior teams.Support the CEO in planning for engagement of key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors by elevating key organizational priorities and challenges, guiding assessments of the best and highest use of time, and clarifying decision-making processes.Organizational Culture In partnership with HR capacity on staff, ensure the health and well-being of the staff culture as a whole.Develop dynamic approaches to understanding current organizational culture.Develop practices that foster an open, safe, engaged, and supportive staff culture.Create mechanisms for hearing and responding to staff concerns and having open discussions around ways to continuously work on the organization's culture.Ensure a constant commitment to improving organizational practices around diversity, equity, and inclusion.Resource Coordination Lead intake planning as complex, large, cross-functional projects come on in order to ensure there are clear project and staffing plans.In partnership with project directors, support solving problems that arise on complicated and high-level projects.Ensure that teams have the structures and staffing to succeed in collaborating on and completing projects.Propose the creation of new systems and processes to streamline operations.Lead strategic planning efforts every 3-5 years to set and prioritize goals.Lead annual planning to advance and evaluate progress towards long-term strategic goals.Organizational Connectivity Keep the CEO informed and position the CEO to be constantly engaged and up-to-speed on organizational happenings and interactions.Provide perspective and input to the CEO and Senior Management Team about how various teams and team collaborations are working across the organization.Participate in change leadership and enablement activities by assessing communications and processes, anticipating and addressing resistance.Skills NeededExcellent problem-solving skills: a nimble thinker who is results-oriented, and deadline-driven.Exceptional organization, project, and time management skills, and a strong attention to detail.Excellent oral communication and public speaking skills.Ability to provide constructive feedback and direction across teams.Honed ability to identify risks/opportunities and identify appropriate course of action.Must demonstrate sound judgment and discretion, ability to manage confidential information.Must be able to work well under pressure and effectively juggle a broad range of simultaneous responsibilities and competing priorities.Strong supervisory and people management skills.Superb judgment and strong decision-making skills.Strong collaboration and team-building skills.High emotional intelligence.Experience Required15 years of combined education and experience in nonprofit management, board management, organization development, and communications.Experience working in the nonprofit sector and a solid understanding of organizations in the social change space.Demonstrated ability to integrate principles of equity, justice, and inclusion into daily work.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.Demonstrated success in managing relationships with partners, coalition members, and funders in a nonprofit, campaign, or movement setting.Demonstrated ability to navigate relationships with program partners and funders.Proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships, promote positive staff morale and culture.Demonstrated success in using data to manage performance and report impact.Reporting: Reports to the CEO. Salary: $200,000 – $225,000.
