Within the BMC Health System, the SVP of Hospital Integration at Boston Medical Center is responsible for partnering with the Presidents of the two community hospitals and their senior leadership team to execute on a hospital performance framework and continue the work to successfully integrate their operations into Boston Medical Center Health System. The Chief of Staff will engage with executive hospital leaders to develop strategies and lead teams through large transformational efforts that impact the hospitals' performance in financial, quality, patient experience and staff engagement domains, with a focus on those elements critical to Year 1 success. The Chief of Staff will work on projects across the BMC Health System, specifically at the two community hospitals, including quality and safety, financial turnaround, and growth and expansion. In Year 1, this work will be closely aligned and coordinated with the overall IMO (Integration Management Office) framework and their Senior Director.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role engaging key stakeholders including executives, developing critical analyses, driving decisions, and implementing change. They will work directly with the SVP of Integration, the two hospital presidents, and other senior leaders on a day-to-day basis. This role represents an ideal entry point for those looking to lead within a healthcare organization.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities Lead teams across BMCHS and at the two entities to assess the performance of a department or group based on quantitative and qualitative data, develop a vision for turnaround and improvement, build support for this vision and manage stakeholders towards successful implementation. Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting key deadlines and deliverables. Help to set comprehensive goals for performance and growth and ensure the teams at each entity hit those goals. Collect data across BMC's internal systems (clinical, operational, IT, HR, etc.) and conduct rigorous analysis to support decision-making. Partner with IT teams to help create solutions that support operations' analytics and workflow needs. Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all entities (e.g. quality, growth, efficiency). Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics. Support SVP of Hospital Integration in identifying and pursuing expansion activities (capital projects, investments, acquisitions, alliances etc.). Provide oversight to project management for end-to-end implementation on strategic projects. Support the SVP of Hospital Integration in the development of business opportunities, setting strategy and goals with the VP, modeling impacts and leading analysis of data and issues. Position Responsibilities: Help lead staff development activities and promote teamwork and positive morale. Be a champion for BMC culture and norms, ensuring it flows through in every interaction and process. Help build systems and processes to identify, hire, onboard and develop quality talent. Participate as a member of the operations team and help meet corporate objectives. Facilitate regular staff meetings with the ops team to disseminate company information and reviews performance against budget and plan objectives. Display excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers and other stakeholders, including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. Education B.A. or B.S. from four-year college or university, plus M.B.A, MPH or other advanced degree preferred.
Experience At least 10 years of Chief of Staff experience, Senior role within hospital operations with experience developing and launching complex programs for clients in a cross-functional environment, or prior management consulting experience at a top-tier consulting firm.
