Chief Operating Officer (COO) Job Description Position Summary Responsible for Sterling United Federal Credit Union (SUFCU) overall operations including oversight of branch management, deposit operations, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), marketing, and building maintenance functions. Responsible for leading, training, and supervising deposit operations staff to ensure department meets organizational goals. Responsible for working as liaison with marketing and IT providers to ensure credit union (CU) expectations are met. Responsible for performing data analysis and proactively adjusting or enhancing processes. Responsible for ensuring staffing levels are adequate while efficient as possible. Responsible for communicating with other CU departments to promote effective and accurate workflow while also establishing positive working relationships.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Direct and enhance frontline processes as needed. Ensure proper segregation of duties, develop and maintain workflows for all stages of the department. Supervise branch managers while leveraging their expertise and knowledge to complete monitoring and other administrative tasks (scheduling, training, deceased accounts, IRAs, etc.). Work as liaison with IT provider to keep hardware and network systems updated while serving as primary contract for application, system, or equipment concerns. Oversee periodic updates to system software and verify that enhancements are working correctly. Assist with system parameters and design to meet the needs of multiple departments. Coordinate building maintenance or renovations with vendors/contractors to ensure work is performed timely and correctly. Share HR responsibilities with other management team members while being primary contact for employee onboarding and subsequent inquiries. Review insurance plan (medical, dental, vision) changes annually and oversee the open enrollment process. Supervise all aspects of CU deposit operations, including back-office, while ensuring staff are provided with updates and procedural changes. Function as liaison to the Internal Auditor/Compliance Officer for audit and compliance issues. Adhere to all State and Federal Banking Regulations, receive and research new regulations, policies and procedures and implement them. Remain current on compliance and regulations by attending training/webinars and reading information available. Ensure necessary changes or recommendations have been implemented as directed. Participate in the review and recommendations of operational systems and procedures. Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; employee performance management; address complaints and resolve problems. Interact successfully within deposit operations and other departments to improve accuracy and efficiency. Advocate for proposed changes that support the CU's strategic initiatives. Conduct various assessments and data analyses to ensure department procedures are achieving accurate and desired results. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained. Meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. Perform other related work and duties as assigned. Education & Experience Four-year degree required Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)7+ years of banking experience preferred 5+ years of supervisory and leadership experience in relevant deposit operations preferred General knowledge of banking regulations (BSA/AML, Reg. CC, Reg E., etc.) Detailed knowledge of deposit products and branch operations Marketing, IT, and/or HR knowledge/experience required Experience in solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of variables in situations Experience in developing, training, leading, and motivating teams Ability to analyze and leverage data to make suggestions/enhancements as necessary About Sterling United FCU Sterling United FCU is a community-chartered credit union headquartered in Evansville, Indiana.
