Overview: Supports clinical staff in providing direct psychiatric evaluation, medical assessment, and intervention to mentally ill individuals in the community who are experiencing or at risk of an acute psychological crisis. Supports clinical staff in providing consultation and education to other agencies and disciplines, including other services of VNS Health. Works under general direction.
Responsibilities: Supports clinical staff to provide outreach as part of the VNS Health Behavioral Health Programs Service to mentally ill individuals in the community who are experiencing or are at risk of an acute psychosocial crisis and require mental health intervention, including provision of medication, if indicated.Supports clinical staff to perform psychiatric evaluations of identified patients.Develops and implements short-term service plans for patients, in conjunction with other members of the Community Mental Health Programs.Supports clinical staff to provide short-term supportive counseling, case management, and appropriate referrals for ongoing treatment.Supports clinical staff to provide crisis intervention services to mentally ill individuals, whose circumstances and condition require intervention, including provision of medications, if indicated.Encourages resistant clients to accept mental health services through intervention with clients and/or family members and friends concerned with the client's welfare.Supports clinical staff to evaluate patients for psychiatric hospitalization, if necessary.Supports clinical staff to evaluate the need for physical evaluations and/or medical services and makes referrals, as indicated.Consults with other mental health providers and community agencies, including other components of the Agency, as well as members of the Home-Based Crisis Service, regarding individual patients.Consults and educates the community and the Agency regarding issues such as crisis management, communication with emotionally disturbed patients, non-violent intervention with violent patients, etc.Assists and collaborates with the Program Coordinator in the overall functioning of the Community Mental Health Programs.Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences of the Community Mental Health Programs.Serves as a resource person to the Community Mental Health Programs and other components of the Agency, when requested.Participates with the Community Mental Health Programs and other appropriate Agency staff in the development and implementation of an in-service training component.Maintains patient records in accordance with the Community Mental Health Programs record-keeping mechanism.Contributes to the formulation of clerical and administrative policies and procedures, as requested.Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Licenses and Certifications: Board certification or eligibility in adult and child psychiatry required. New York State Physician's License required. DEA Controlled Substance Registration and Number required.
Education: Medical degree from an accredited college of medicine required.
Experience: Adult & child residency program completed required.
Compensation: $167,000.00 - $223,800.00 Annual
