Job Description:
Summary:
The person in this position will work on multidisciplinary project teams serving mining, fuels, power, and public sector clients. This person must be experienced in civil engineering design and analysis related to site layout, grading and drainage, mass earthwork, etc. Work will involve technical assignments such as design with CADD modeling software, construction plans and specification preparation, spreadsheet preparation, site development design, report writing, large-report preparation, construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility inspection. Assignments may also include working directly with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.
Administrative responsibilities may involve business development, project management, project planning, and scheduling. This person will also have the opportunity to serve as a mentor to junior-level engineers to grow their civil engineering expertise and project management skills by reviewing technical reports and providing guidance on operations-related tasks. The work may require travel for out-of-town assignments.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
Five years of experience including civil design
Proficient with AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other CADD-based civil design software
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year
Flexible working style, self-initiative, self-motivation, and a willingness to work with teams to meet clients' needs and project schedules
Conscientiousness concerning the accuracy, appropriateness, and timeliness of results
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Seven or more years of related work experience
Project management experience
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Ann Arbor, Michigan, office.
NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
