Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a civil design/technician student to work on project teams involved with civil engineering and design and related technical activities. Typical project responsibilities may include design using CADD modeling software and assistance with construction plans and specifications; supporting internal project teams by creating, preparing, modifying, and managing drawings, specifications, and models for design documents; field data reduction; and spreadsheet preparation. Fieldwork opportunities may include survey and other field tasks.Minimum Qualifications:Pursuing an associate degree in civil engineering technology or a related engineering fieldMinimum GPA of 3.2Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D either through coursework or industryExperience with Microsoft Windows OS and Microsoft Office softwareStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clientsCompleted or enrolled in physics and/or mathematics courseworkAt least one full-time semester of course work remaining after internship is completeA flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needsDetail-oriented, thorough, and organized approachLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:Proficiency with Microsoft ExcelPrevious construction observation, Civil 3D, or other design software experienceExperience with GPS survey equipmentA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota offices.NOTE: Applicant must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction sites. Work may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities.
