Description
Handley Regional Library seeks dependable and detail oriented individual to assist in cleaning Bowman Library.
Prior building cleaning experience preferred.
Schedule may include morning, evening, and/or weekend hours as needed.
Closing date: October 31, 2024 Hours per week: 20
Rate of Pay: $13.50/hr
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Fair Labor Standards Act: Non-exempt

Major Duties Dusts, wipes, vacuums, and otherwise cleans all interior surfaces of the Handley or Bowman Libraries.
Cleans bathrooms and kitchen areas.
Follows a routine that includes daily, weekly, monthly, and other scheduled intervals for cleaning.
Reports all problems or potential problems to supervisor.
When on the job, takes care of emergency cleaning needs.
Following the building schedule for trash and recycling, places all garbage in exterior cans or dumpster each day.
Places items for recycling in the correct location for pickup.
Empties exterior trash containers on a regular basis.
Replaces light bulbs in areas that do not require special access.
Performs exterior sweeping, picks up minor trash from grounds; and performs snow removal when there is minimal snow.
Follows safety rules for the proper use of cleaning solutions.
Follows safety rules for handling waste that may contain blood-borne pathogens.
Operates all equipment and cleaning apparatus in a safe and conscientious manner.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Controls
Works under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager and general supervision of the Branch Operations Manager.
Work is evaluated by direct observation of the work performed, through regular inspections and meetings, and by annual performance evaluation.
Guidelines
Policies and procedures of the Handley Library, the Five-Year Plan of the Handley Library, and policies and procedures of the City of Winchester, Frederick County, and Clarke County.
Policies governing State and Federal aid programs.
Administrative procedures manual.
Complexity
Work is routine requiring a high level of attention to detail, thoroughness, and consistency.
Scope and Effect
Patrons and staff members should be comfortable and safe in library buildings.
The appearance of the buildings will be attractive and well maintained.
Personal Contacts
Contacts are with library personnel and the general public.
Physical Demands
The work requires ability to climb ladders, sweep and lift loads of at least 50 pounds, and to operate machinery such as a vacuum cleaner.
This position requires transportation to move between library locations.
Work Environment
Work is performed in public and office spaces in the Library, on grounds of library buildings, and throughout the library system in the hours before the library opens and immediately after it opens.
Some evening and weekend work is required.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand and follow simple verbal and written directions; ability to get along well with others; thorough and dependable.
Education, Training, and Experience
High school graduate/GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skill, and abilities.
Some building cleaning experience and sufficient education to be able to read and write, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
