Responsibility also involves ensuring the receipt, recording, routing, and labeling of specimens and communicating test results to the attending physician.
Assists with performing laboratory quality control, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities; maintains laboratory supply inventories and processes requests for supply orders; training new employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
· Receive, process, and analyze specimens for Hematology, Chemistry, and reference Laboratories.· Must be knowledgeable in computer data entry using laboratory LIS.· Review laboratory orders/Requisitions and prepare samples for appropriate reference laboratories.· Review patient results prior to verification in LIS, repeat sample if necessary, and notify clinical staff of critical results in a timely manner.
Adhere to run around time policy.· Perform microscopic morphology and manual differentials according to laboratory procedures.· Perform all required maintenance in the analyzer.
Load reagent and consumables supplies as needed.· Monitor inventory and notify laboratory leadership when supplies are low.· Troubleshoot analyzers when necessary.· Adhere to strict quality control protocol and maintain log books.· Maintain performs additional duties as needed.· Must be able to work independently.· Check Quality Control values daily and adjust if they are out of range by repeat analysis, changing reagents, or other troubleshooting methods.· Quarterly analysis of unknown proficiency samples, data compilation, and online submission· Daily and monthly maintenance/cleaning for laboratory equipment.· Semi-annual linearity testing for the chemistry analyzer using commercial controls, data compilation, and online submission.· Biohazard waste handling and disposal· Participate in required biohazard waste training every year.· Produce reports for the Lab Director as needed.· Maintain an effective quality assurance program that measures all critical service aspects and compliance with relevant regulatory agencies' quality assurance requirements (e.g., NYS and CLIA).· Ensure proficiency reports are completed and reported on time.· Bone marrow collection of specimens extracted by the clinician; process marrow samples and slides for pathology interpretation; package specimens, process paperwork, and contact FedEx Express pickup- if necessary.Requirements:EDUCATION/ CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCEB.S.
Medical Technology or related discipline requiredAt least one year of clinical laboratory training at an accredited labExperience with operating analyzers, blood smear microscopyExperience with EMR software (Onco/LabDaq)Must have experience working in Windows and with MS Office softwareMust have valid NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist limited permit or full NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license reflected within the NYS Office of Professions
