Responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation & evaluation of orientation & continuing education programs for hospital staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities:None
Duties/Responsibilities: Works with leaders to assess learning needs of clinical staff & provide education based on current evidence & best practices.
Participates in the planning & delivery of clinical orientation for new hires, annual clinical competencies & other hands-on education.
Evaluates effectiveness of educational activities conducted & revises materials as needed to meet different learning styles/needs.
Supports staff development including certification, remediation, mentoring, new equipment training, & EHR updates.
Coordinates team member education through online learning management system (Health.edu).
Assists with course evaluation & development.Assures appropriate documentation is filed timely.
Develops tracking metrics & reports to communicate performance in clinical units.
Follows up with managers to drive improved compliance.
Coordinates staff education through use of the Simulation lab & other learning mechanisms.
Maintains current instructor status to teach CPR, PALS & ACLS.
Coordinates certification training for staff & public.
Serves as a resource for all nursing units to ensure compliance with standards of care & regulatory requirements (CHF, Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis,Sleep Lab, Transitional Care, etc).
Participate in the committees as requested.
Works with managers in providing education credits for RNs & MAs to maintain specialty certifications.
Serves as liaison with nursing & clinical programs & coordinates student rotations.
Partners with AHEC to coordinate high school student shadowing program.
Collaborates with unit managers in the development of policies, procedures, standards & processes.
Partners with nurses at all levels across the organization to improve performance & clinical quality outcomes.
Participates on quality, safety & accreditation teams & activities, as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: Self-motivated Able to execute & evaluate the educational needs of the clinical staff Demonstrates independent judgement skills & discretion Knowledge & utilization of principles of adult learning Effectively communicates with physicians, nurses, managers & other healthcare professionals Education and Experience: Minimum Associate's degree in nursing, Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of three years nursing/patient care experience.
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana.
Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, sitting, standing, talking & use of hands.
Occasionally may need to lift up to 25 lbs
