JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager of Behavioral Health is responsible for the provision of nursing care and actively participates in the administration of the Department of Nursing. The Nurse Manager directs, supervises, coordinates, plans and evaluates nursing care practice and unit functions in accordance with hospital policy. The position requires clinical and managerial competence in psychiatric nursing, assuring cost-effective yet adequate numbers of nursing staff and resources, on-going competency of nursing and clerical staff, as well as high quality care required for a safe, therapeutic environment. The Nurse Manager consults with the Director of Behavioral Health and Medical Staff on activities related to clinical operations, quality improvement and risk management as well as implements changes in policy, programs and physical resources required to achieve hospital objectives.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION
Sufficient education to obtain a valid California RN license. Masters Degree in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, or its equivalent, from a school of nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three years of recent acute psychiatric clinical experience.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a diverse staff, physicians and outside agencies. Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of Hospital personnel and external customers. Demonstrates ability to set priorities, achieve objectives, solve problems, meet deadlines, coordinate simultaneous projects and make decisions. Demonstrates clinical and technical skills in patient care delivery. Expert knowledge of WandI Code, Title 22, Title 9, The Joint Commission and Medicare COP as relates to Inpatient Psychiatry Nursing in a general hospital. Experience within a union environment. Experience in data management and analysis preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of management and leadership theories. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Demonstrated oral and written skills. Ability to read, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instructions.
LICENSE / REGISTRATION / CERTIFICATION
Current valid California RN license. Possession of other certifications (BLS, MAB, etc) as required by department policy.
