We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Supervisor who will support the General Internal Medicine (GIM) faculty practice at Johns Hopkins at Green Spring Station. This position works closely with the Medical Director and Clinic Manager to maintain high-quality care with an emphasis on population health and patient relations. This position directly supervises the clinic nurses (RNs) and the Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs and provides administrative oversight of day-to-day activities of RNs and CMAs in the office. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor oversees individual employee development and training and conducts performance appraisals.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Coordinates care for a group of primary complex patients to achieve clinical and organizational outcomes.Provides evidence-based care based on nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols of the Johns Hopkins Hospital.Provides direction to/management of other team members to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care.Actively participates in Comprehensive Unit Based Safety Program (CUSP) initiatives. Serves as nurse lead for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in the clinic.Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance and patient outcomes.Triages phone calls and electronic advice requests from patients and determines need for medical assessment.Assesses lab results and implements intervention in consultation with primary providers.Triages calls from outside institutions, the JHH Emergency Department, and other health care providers; determines and implements follow-up plans.Identifies care continuity needs of patients; generates and pends orders to primary providers for signature.Assists primary providers with maintaining electronic medical records; scans outside results into system, updates immunization history, updates health maintenance records, acts on overdue health maintenance items.Conveys critical action values/patient request of lab results when requested by provider (communication from MD to RN)Provides patient education for self-care chronic disease management (in person, by phone, or via electronic record).Performs transitional care management calls for practice patients discharged from hospitals and emergency rooms in the area and determines the need for short-term outpatient follow-up.Helps complete forms (e.g., disability, FMLA, mobility) requiring basic health history.Helps obtain prior authorizations for tests and medications when unable to obtained by MOC or Prior Authorization Team.Assists with in person clinical care (e.g., medication administration, rooming of patients, chaperoning) when needed.Responsible for other clinical duties as assigned.Administrative Coordinates a multi-faceted, high volume medical practice.Monitors and problem-solves on active office issues, and works with GSS Clinical Director, Clinic Manager, and Sr. Administrative Manager to develop, implement and maintain new administrative policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations of the office.Defines, directs and monitors support staff responsibilities, productivity, performance, workflow and coverage, and coordinates and approves all support staff leave time and overtime, etc.On-boards and trains all incoming clinical support staff (CMAs, RNs). Responsible for training and implementation of revised/new clinical workflows.Responsible for clinical supplies and equipment, including ordering, maintenance, and general management.Serves as contact for all faculty, clinical associates, advanced practice providers and staff in the division with questions, requests, etc.Analyzes standing unit operating practices such as record keeping systems, forms control, office layout, personnel requirements, creating new systems or revising established procedures.Assist in directing and developing monthly and annual office meetings to provide updates on policies, divisional procedures, and internal clinical and administrative issues.Interprets and communicates operating policies.Develops new computerized records systems to maintain academic and administrative data, e.g. faculty salary, contracts and informational records.Serves as liaison for physician practice to department administration, clinical management, and hospital services.Successfully completes all training courses required for access to Epic and other clinical software systemsHuman Resources Responsible for hiring, supervision, and performance management of all clinical support staff and temporary employeesApproval of all vacation and sick requests and coordination of vacation schedules among the RN/CMA group.Manage back-up support coverage for vacations to ensure there is always RN/CMA coverage and the physicians know who to contact.Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of nursing process; social, behavioral, biological, and physical sciences; safety and scientific inquiry process and application to the skill performanceKnowledge of current health care environment.Knowledge of general physiologic monitoring and patient care equipment such as defibrillator and glucometer monitor.Exhibits effective use of resources and cost awareness.
Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and to make judgments regarding patient care.Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care.Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data.Ability to operate personal computer to access email, computerized scheduling and documentation systems, and other basic office support software including Microsoft Office applications.Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument.Ability to apply principles of evidence-based practice, scientific process, and service excellence in practice.Ability to interact successfully with the public.Ability to perform effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities.Ability to maintain personal composure in high stress situations.Ability to demonstrate and convey a favorable image of the organization and to conform to proper standards of professional dress, attitude and demeanor.Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, patients' families/visitors and clinical staff.

Minimum Qualifications Must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.Minimum of three year's experience in an outpatient setting. Additional experience may substitute for bachelor's Degree and prior supervisory experience may substitute for up to two years of required nursing experience. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
