JOB SUMMARY:
With general direction from the Clinical Nurse Supervisor, receive, sort and distribute all faxed data pertaining to hospital wide surgical services. Schedule patient teaching appointments for the three areas of RN preoperative screening. Collect, organize, track and deliver all necessary clinical data required for each procedure based on specified criteria to the necessary receiving RN. Prepare each patient chart as determined by surgical procedure and location prior to patient arrival.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION
High School graduate or equivalent GED required
EXPERIENCE
One year of experience in a medical, hospital or health care setting.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS Typing skills of 35 WPMWorking knowledge of medical terminologyExcellent communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written)Basic Computer skills and the ability to navigate easily in a windows environmentAbility to work independently within departmentAbility to function within a high-tension level environmentAbility to work effectively and tactfully and to represent Surgery Center appropriately during contacts with the public, patients and their families, staff, physicians and other department personnelDetail orientedAbility to complete work by specified due dateLICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL (not modifiable) Assist in scheduling of pre-operative RN appointmentsCompile informed consent, history and physical, lab, etc., to accompany patient through surgeryMaintain a working relationship with physician's office staff while requesting necessary clinical documents from officeConstruct appropriate patient charts to accompany patient through surgeryPrepare daily call material for Nursing staffMaintain fax, logging and distributing according to determined destinationUtilize various types of administrative and health statistics to include in monthly utilization reportsProvide back up for all other clinical support staff functions when required, after appropriate cross trainingAdheres to all MGH and Surgery Center departmental policies and proceduresObserve all safety precautions and complies with health and safety rules and regulationsAttends monthly in-services and meetings when appropriate, completing HealthStream competencies annuallyCollect necessary patient charting, checking for accuracy to insure accurate charge entryAccurate data entry post procedure to insure clean statistical reportingSECONDARY (modifiable) Some positions may require, but are not limited to, previous knowledge in charge entry and/or surgical data entryOther duties as assignedAt MarinHealth, our top priority is the well-being of our employees, patients, and community. The selected candidate's compensation will be determined based on the individual's skills, experience, internal/market equity factors, and qualifications. This posted minimum and maximum range represents the minimum and maximum of what we reasonably expect to compensate for the position. Furthermore, all compensation decisions are ultimately determined in accordance with our compensation philosophy. Compensation for positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by the agreements in the aforementioned document.
