Job Title: CNC Lathe Operator Location: South Chesterfield, VA Position Type: 4-month contract to hire Shift: 2nd Shift Pay Rate: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour (Depending on Experience) Shift Differential: $2.50 per hour We are currently seeking a 2nd Shift CNC Lathe Operator for a contract-to-hire opportunity at our South Chesterfield, VA location. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced CNC operators to join a dynamic team and make a significant impact.
\n Key Responsibilities:Blueprint Reading & Setup: Interpret blueprints, job routings, tooling instructions, and charts for dimensions, tolerances, holding fixtures, cutting speeds, feed rates, and cutting tools to be used.Machine Setup & Operation: Position, load, secure, and set tools while understanding run-out, tool length, stick-outs, and proper holders. Set up and operate 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machine tools, including modifying and assembling fixtures for experimental purposes.Tooling Maintenance: Inspect tools for wear, understand when tools need adjustments, and recognize when tools are dull or chipped. Modify tools as necessary.Quality Control: Perform quality control checks and document tolerance zones specified in blueprints to ensure parts meet specifications.Program & Operation Management: Load and send programs, apply tool and work offsets, and adjust work as needed to maintain production quality and efficiency.Problem Solving & Feedback: Provide feedback on programming or setup changes to improve processes. Troubleshoot issues such as tool wear, misalignment, or part quality deviations.Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with team members to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and support each other in meeting production goals. Education & Experience Requirements:Education: Minimum of a high school diploma required.Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a machine shop environment, with a strong background in CNC Lathe operations. Journeyman card preferred.Skills: Strong understanding of G-codes and M-codes, machine and fixture setup, canned cycles, and work offset coordinate systems.Measurement Tools: Ability to use measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauge pins, height and bore gauges, and indicators.Problem-Solving: Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining problems efficiently. Qualifications:Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, including GD&T.High awareness of client satisfaction and a focus on producing quality work.Demonstrated ability to calculate speed and feed rates for various materials.Experience working with both steel and aluminum materials. Additional Skills:Machine Setup & Operation: Adept at machine setup, including aligning tooling, setting up jaws or collets, and positioning workpieces to minimize runout and optimize accuracy.G-Code Editing: Proficient in interpreting G-code, making minor adjustments to programs for optimal performance.Inspection & Troubleshooting: Experienced in using precision tools to inspect parts and troubleshoot common issues such as tool wear, misalignment, or part quality problems. Team Environment:Collaboration: Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment, supporting colleagues in troubleshooting and production goals.Continuous Improvement: Take initiative in process optimization and contribute ideas for efficiency improvements.
